Folic acid ratiopharm® is a vitamin preparation that is used to treat folic acid deficiency states that cannot be compensated for through diet.No prescription is required for this product.

Each tablet of folic acid ratiopharm® contains 5 mg of folic acid as an active ingredient.The following other ingredients are also included: cellulose powder, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide and talc.

Area of application

The preparation is used to treat folic acid deficiencies that cannot be remedied by an adapted diet.

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1 to 3 tablets per day, as needed, which corresponds to an amount of 5 to 15 mg of folic acid.The tablets should be taken whole with meals and with sufficient liquid.

Intake

The tablets are taken whole with meals with a little liquid.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to folic acid or any other ingredient in the medicine.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant, you should ask your doctor or pharmacy before taking this medicine.There are no known risks up to a daily dose of 5 mg.There is no sufficient experience with the use of a daily dose of more than 5 mg folic acid during pregnancy, therefore the maximum daily dose of 5 mg folic acid should not be exceeded.

Notes

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.Contains lactose.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.Even in the case of life-threatening anemia due to impaired development of red blood cells (megaloblastic anemia), a possible vitamin B12 deficiency must be ruled out before starting therapy due to the risk of permanent damage to the nervous system (ensuring serum and erythrocyte samples and determining the vitamin B12 content).
