MometaDex® 50 micrograms/spray as a nasal spray

MometaDex® 50 micrograms/spray nasal spray, suspension, contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate.It is used to treat the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults if the hay fever was initially diagnosed by a doctor.Hay fever is an allergic reaction caused by inhaling pollen from trees, grasses, weeds or even mold and fungal spores.The nasal spray reduces the swelling and irritation in the nose, thereby relieving sneezing, itching and a stuffy or runny nose.

No prescription is required for this product.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: 50 micrograms of mometasone furoate per spray.The other ingredients are: benzalkonium chloride, glycerol, polysorbate 80 [pflanzlich], microcrystalline cellulose and carmellose sodium (Ph.Eur.), citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate (Ph.Eur.) and purified water.

Application

The recommended dose is two sprays into each nostril once daily.Once your symptoms are under control, your doctor may advise you to reduce your dose.If there is no improvement, you should see your doctor who may order you to increase the dose.The maximum daily dose is four sprays into each nostril once daily.

In some patients, MometaDex begins to relieve symptoms within 12 hours of the first dose.However, the full effect of the treatment may only be seen after the first two days.Therefore, you should continue to use the medicine regularly to get the full effect of the treatment.

If you suffer from severe hay fever, you should start using MometaDex before pollen season as this will help prevent your hay fever symptoms from occurring.

Area of application

MometaDex® hay fever spray is used in adults to treat the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), provided the initial diagnosis of hay fever has been made by a doctor.

Contraindications

MometaDex Nasal Spray must not be used if you are allergic to mometasone furoate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The nasal spray should also not be used if you have an untreated infection in the nose or have recently had nasal surgery or a nasal injury.You should only start using the nasal spray once your nose has healed.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this nasal spray if you have or have had tuberculosis in the past, have another infection, are taking other medicines containing corticosteroids or have cystic fibrosis (cystic fibrosis).

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist while using this product if your immune system is not working properly and you come into contact with people who have had measles or chickenpox, you have an infection of the nose or throat, you are using the medicine for several months or longer, or you have persistent irritation of the nose or throat.Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.

If your eyes are itchy or irritated, your doctor may recommend using other treatments along with this nasal spray.

The medicine must not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

There is little information about the use of the product in pregnant women.It is not known whether mometasone furoate passes into breast milk.

Notes

Contains benzalkonium chloride.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Using the nasal spray

Preparing your nasal spray for use: Your nasal spray has a protective cap that protects the nasal olive and keeps it clean.Be sure to take them off before using the spray and then put them back on again.The first time you use the spray, you will need to prepare the bottle by pumping 10 times until a fine spray is created. If you have not used the nasal spray for 14 days or longer, you will need to prepare the nasal spray again by pressing the spray twice until a fine mist is created.

How to use your nasal spray?Shake the bottle slightly and remove the protective cap.Blow your nose gently.Hold one nostril closed and insert the nasal olive into the other nostril.Tilt your head slightly forward while continuing to hold the bottle upright.Begin to breathe in gently through your nose.As you breathe in, spray a spray of fine mist into your nose by pressing down once with your fingers.Breathe out through your mouth.Repeat this step to deliver a second spray into the same nostril if necessary.Pull the nasal olive out of this nostril and breathe out through the mouth.Repeat these steps with the other nostril.After use, clean the nosepiece with a clean handkerchief or cloth and put the protective cap back on.

Cleaning the nasal spray: The nasal spray must be cleaned regularly, otherwise it may not work properly.To do this, remove the protective cap and carefully pull off the nosepiece.Clean the nosepiece and the protective cap with warm water and then rinse both under running water.Do not try to open the nostril exit opening with a needle or sharp object, as this will damage the nostril and prevent you from receiving the correct dose of medicine.Allow the nosepiece and protective cap to dry in a warm place.Put the nosepiece and then the protective cap back on the bottle.The nasal spray must be prepared with 2 sprays before the first use after cleaning.
