Area of application
Kompensan is a gastrointestinal agent and is one of the antacids that bind stomach acid.It is used to treat symptoms of heartburn, acid-related stomach problems, and stomach and duodenal ulcers.The product is available without a prescription.

Kompensan contains 340 mg carbaldrate as the active ingredient.It also contains 300 mg of aluminum sodium carbonate dihydroxide.The excipients include gelatin, magnesium stearate, sodium alginate, 636 mg sucrose, peppermint flavor, spearmint flavor and sodium ions.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to carbaldrate, peppermint flavor or any of the other ingredients.It should also not be used if there is significant impairment of kidney function, low phosphate levels in the blood, constipation or narrowing of the intestines.Children under 12 years of age should not take Kompensan as there is no sufficient experience in this age group.
Dosage
Adolescents 12 years and older and adults can take 1 to 2 tablets (300 to 600 mg of carbaldrate) between meals, at bedtime, or as needed.The maximum daily dose is 8 tablets (2400 mg carbaldrate).The tablets should be sucked and not swallowed.Treatment should not last longer than 14 days unless a doctor directs otherwise.
Intake
The tablets should be sucked slowly or allowed to dissolve in the mouth.It is advisable to take Kompensan 1 to 2 hours after meals and at night.Other medicines should generally be taken two hours before or after taking Kompensan.
Patient information
Particular caution is required in the event of kidney dysfunction and long-term use of high doses.Stomach problems that persist for a long time should be checked by a doctor.If you have tarry stools, blood in your stools or vomiting blood, you should see a doctor immediately.Regular monitoring of aluminum levels is necessary for long-term use.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy, Kompensan should only be used for a short time to avoid exposing the child to aluminum.Aluminum compounds pass into breast milk, but there is no risk to the newborn.A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before taking.
