Instructions for use of cetirizine HEUMANN 10 mg film-coated tablets
Cetirizine HEUMANN 10 mg film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride.This medicine is used to relieve nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and to relieve hives (urticaria) in adults and children 6 years of age and older.No prescription is required for this product.
Areas of application
Cetirizine HEUMANN is used for allergic diseases such as chronic hives, neurodermatitis, chronic allergic rhinitis, hay fever and as a supportive treatment for allergic asthma.Typical symptoms can include itching, hives, redness of the skin, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, nasal congestion, redness or itching of the eyes and tearing.
Dosage and application
The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.The tablet can be divided into equal doses.Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age take one tablet once a day.Children between 6 and 12 years old take half a tablet twice daily.Patients with kidney failure should adjust the dose accordingly.The duration of intake depends on the type, duration and course of the symptoms.
Composition
The active ingredient is cetirizine dihydrochloride.One film-coated tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate (vegetable), colloidal silicon dioxide, macrogol 400 and titanium dioxide (E 171).
Contraindications
Cetirizine HEUMANN must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, severe kidney disease and children under 6 years of age.If you are prone to seizures or have impaired kidney function, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
Side effects
Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, tiredness, sleepiness, restlessness, sore throat, dry mouth, runny nose, abnormal sensations, skin hypersensitivity reactions such as itching and rash, malaise and general weakness.
Storage
Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the packaging.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater, but take them to the pharmacy for disposal.
Mode of action
Cetirizine dihydrochloride helps with allergies and relieves itching.It suppresses the effects of the body's own substances histamine and prostaglandins by inhibiting their release from the mast cells and displacing them from their binding sites.These substances play an important role in the development of inflammation and allergic reactions.
Important notes

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Although animal studies have shown no evidence of fetal damage, the use of cetirizine should be avoided during pregnancy as a precaution.Since cetirizine passes into breast milk in animal experiments and its excretion into milk in humans has not been studied, cetirizine must not be taken by nursing mothers.
Patient information
The treatment time depends on the type, duration and course of the symptoms and is determined by the doctor.For hay fever, 3-6 weeks are generally sufficient.There is experience of up to 6 months in the supportive treatment of allergic asthma.Experience with chronic hives and chronic allergic rhinitis has been reported for up to a year.For children aged 2 and over, the duration of use is 2-4 weeks.
