What are Formigran film-coated tablets and what are they used for?
Formigran film-coated tablets are a medicine for the acute treatment of the headache phases of migraine attacks with and without aura.Migraine symptoms can be caused by a temporary dilation of the blood vessels in the head.The active ingredient naratriptan reduces this dilation of the blood vessels, which relieves headaches and reduces other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and noise.Formigran is a selective serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonist.
Areas of application
Formigran film-coated tablets are used for the acute treatment of the headache phases of migraine attacks with and without aura.Typical signs of a migraine include a unilateral, pounding headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and noise.
Mode of action
The active ingredient Naratriptan has a narrowing effect on the blood vessels in the area of the meninges, which are dilated in migraine conditions.This alleviates the cause of the migraine headache and the accompanying symptoms such as nausea, sensitivity to light and noise.

Ingredients of Formigran film-coated tablets: One tablet contains 2.78 mg naratriptan hydrochloride (equivalent to 2.5 mg naratriptan).Other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.), hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), triacetin, iron (III) hydroxide oxide (E172), indigo carmine aluminum salt (E132).
Dosage
Adults between 18 and 65 years of age should take one film-coated tablet as soon as possible after the first signs of migraine headache.The tablets may also be effective later in the migraine attack.If there is improvement after the first tablet but the pain returns, a second tablet can be taken after at least 4 hours.No more than 2 tablets should be taken within 24 hours.If the first dose does not provide relief, a second dose should not be taken for the same attack.
Intake
The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Contraindications
Formigran film-coated tablets must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients, coronary heart disease, Prinzmetal's angina, a history of heart attack, circulatory disorders in the brain region, a history of stroke, certain forms of migraine without headache, circulatory disorders in the periphery, high blood pressure, impaired kidney or liver function and certain risk factors for narrowing of the blood vessels in the heart.The use is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age and for adults over 65 years of age.
Side effects
Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea and vomiting, dizziness, tiredness, sleepiness, visual disturbances, temporary high blood pressure, increased pulse rate, heart palpitations, decreased pulse rate, abnormal sensations such as tingling, feeling of warmth, feeling of heaviness, pressure and tightness, muscle pain and discomfort.
Patient information
The medicine should be taken as early as possible after the onset of the migraine headache.It is only suitable for people who know they have a migraine.If you are unsure, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.The medicine may only be taken during pregnancy after a careful risk-benefit assessment.If you are breastfeeding, you should not breastfeed for 24 hours after taking the medication.
