LACTUFLOR is an oral solution containing the active ingredient lactulose. It is used to treat constipation that cannot be sufficiently relieved by a high-fibre diet. It also facilitates bowel emptying and softens the stool in certain conditions such as painful anal symptoms. It is also used in portocaval encephalopathy, a brain injury caused by liver disease LACTUFLOR . For constipation, adults should take 10-15 ml LACTUFLOR 1-2 times daily, while children should take 5-10 ml. For the treatment of portocaval encephalopathy, adults should take 10-15 ml 3-4 times daily initially and gradually increase the dose to 30-45 ml 3-4 times daily. The duration of use depends on the clinical picture and it may take some time before the desired effect occurs. Common side effects are mild abdominal pain and flatulence at moderate doses. At high doses, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and disturbances in the electrolyte balance may occur. People with hypersensitivity to the ingredients of LACTUFLOR or with intestinal obstruction should not take the drug. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers can use LACTUFLOR without concern as there are no known harmful effects. If adverse effects occur, the doctor should be informed.
