Diclac Schmerzgel 1% Gel is an over-the-counter medicine for external use for pain, inflammation and swelling. It contains the active ingredient diclofenac sodium, which belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/analgesics. The gel is used to treat pain, inflammation and swelling in sports and accident injuries such as sprains, bruises and strains. It is also suitable for rheumatic diseases of the soft tissues such as tendonitis and tenosynovitis, bursitis and inflammation of the muscles and capsules, as well as for degenerative diseases of the peripheral joints of the extremities. Adolescents aged 14 years and over can use the gel for short-term treatment and for the local, symptomatic treatment of pain in acute bruises, strains or sprains resulting from blunt trauma. However, it should not be used for more than 7 days unless recommended by a doctor. The recommended dose is a cherry- to walnut-sized amount of the gel 3 to 4 times a day, equivalent to 1-4 g of gel (10-40 mg of diclofenac sodium). The maximum total daily dose is 16 g of gel, corresponding to 160 mg of diclofenac sodium. The gel is applied thinly to the affected area and rubbed in gently. Hands should then be washed thoroughly, unless they were the area to be treated. Open wounds, inflammations or infections of the skin as well as eyes and mucous membranes should not come into contact with the gel. The duration of use is usually 1-2 weeks, depending on the symptoms and the underlying disease. In case of long-term use, a doctor should be consulted. Side effects may occur, such as hypersensitivity reactions of the skin, rash, itching, scaling of the skin and water retention (oedema). Diclac Pain Gel should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, spontaneously occurring (mucous) skin swelling, hives, chronic obstructive respiratory disease, chronic respiratory infections, asthma, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, eczema, open wounds, inflammation or infection of the skin and in children under 14 years of age. Pregnant women and women who are breast-feeding should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use. Diclac Pain Relief Gel should be kept out of the reach of children and stored at room temperature below 25°C. The gel has a shelf life of 9 months after the first opening of the tube.
