Folic acid 5 mg tablets are used for the treatment of folic acid deficiencies that cannot be corrected by diet. The tablets contain 5 mg folic acid per tablet and should be taken according to the package leaflet. It is recommended to take 1 to 3 tablets per day with meals and liquid. The duration of use depends on the severity of the folic acid deficiency and is determined individually by the doctor. There are some contraindications to taking folic acid biosyn. If there is hypersensitivity to folic acid or the other ingredients of the medicine or if there is anaemia with enlarged red blood cells, the medicine must not be taken. Folic acid biosyn may also cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Possible side effects include allergic reactions, reddening of the skin, itching, bronchospasm, nausea, circulatory failure, sleep disturbances, agitation, depression and gastrointestinal disorders. A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted in the event of any disturbances of well-being or changes during treatment. The tablets contain folic acid as the active substance and lactose monohydrate, talc, cellulose powder, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate as other ingredients. It is important to note that the medicine should be stored away from moisture and light and must be kept out of the reach of children. The commercial forms are 20 tablets, 50 tablets and 100 tablets. Folic acid substitution requires a prescription and may only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
