Description

This preparation is a vitamin B1 agent that is used to treat certain vitamin B1 deficiency symptoms.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

The vitamin B1 preparation is used for the initial treatment of severe forms of Wernicke's encephalopathy and beriberi.Wernicke encephalopathy is a brain disease caused by vitamin B1 deficiency, while beriberi is a vitamin B1 deficiency disease.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient of this preparation is thiamine hydrochloride in an amount of 200 mg, which corresponds to 157 mg of thiamine.In addition, the preparation contains the excipients sodium hydroxide, water for injections and sodium ions in a total amount of 23 mg.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to vitamin B1.

Dosage

The administration of vitamin B1 is only indicated in the initial treatment of severe forms of Wernicke's encephalopathy and beriberi.The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed the medicine differently.

For initial vitamin B1 therapy for Wernicke encephalopathy, 1 ampoule is injected up to 3 times daily.For initial vitamin B1 therapy for beriberi, 1/2 to 1 ampoule is injected daily.It should be used before taking carbohydrates.The thiamine blood level should be determined immediately before starting treatment.

For further treatment after the acute symptoms have subsided, preparations with a lower dosage of active ingredients are available.

There is no experience with use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.Therefore, use in children and adolescents under 18 is not recommended.

No dose adjustment is necessary in elderly patients or in patients with impaired liver or kidney function.

The treating doctor decides on the duration of use.It depends on the course of the disease.

If you have taken more than you should, stop using vitamin B1.Other measures are generally not necessary.Curare-like nerve paralysis has been observed with extreme overdoses of more than 10 g.Physical complaints must be treated medically according to current medical requirements.

Application

The medicine is given by your doctor or other healthcare professional as a slow intravenous infusion, but it can also be injected slowly intramuscularly or intravenously.After opening an ampoule, the rest should be discarded.

Patient information

Hypersensitivity reactions with shock after a vitamin B1 injection are very rare but possible.If you experience shortness of breath, a racing heart, hives or circulatory collapse, you should contact a doctor immediately.

So far there is no evidence of an impairment of the ability to drive or operate machines.Corresponding studies have not been carried out with the drug.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, your daily vitamin requirements should be ensured with a balanced diet.This medicine is only intended to treat vitamin deficiency and may therefore only be used after the doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks.There are no systematic studies on the use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Vitamin B1 passes into breast milk.
