Centricor® Forte Vitamin C Ampoules is a vitamin C preparation for intravenous use.Vitamin C is essential for the body as it acts as an antioxidant and supports the normal functioning of the immune system.A lack of vitamin C can increase susceptibility to infections.Intravenous administration allows for immediate and complete absorption into the bloodstream.

Each ampoule contains a high dose of 1000 mg of vitamin C, which enters the bloodstream directly and quickly arrives at the site of action.The preparation is vegan.

Areas of application

This medicine is used to prevent and treat clinical vitamin C deficiency that cannot be corrected by diet or oral substitution.It is also used for childhood methemoglobinemia, a threatening reduction in oxygen transport in the blood that often occurs after poisoning.It is also suitable for supplying vitamin C with artificial (parenteral) nutrition.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Centricor® Forte Vitamin C ampoules is ascorbic acid (vitamin C).One milliliter of solution for injection contains 200 mg of ascorbic acid and one ampoule of 5 ml contains 1000 mg of ascorbic acid.The preparation also contains sodium bicarbonate and water for injections as excipients.

Dosage

The dosage should always be taken exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist.For the prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency in adults, the recommended dose is 100 to 500 mg of ascorbic acid intravenously per day.Children receive 5 to 7 mg of ascorbic acid per kilogram of body weight per day intravenously.For methemoglobinemia in children, 500 to 1000 mg of ascorbic acid is injected intravenously once; the administration can be repeated if necessary.The maximum dose should not exceed 100 mg per kilogram of body weight per day.

Patients with kidney or liver impairment should speak to their doctor about possible dosage adjustment.The medicine must not be used if you have kidney stones made from oxalate.Patients with severe renal insufficiency should not receive more than 50 to 100 mg of vitamin C per day.For patients with erythrocytic glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency), the dosage should not exceed 100 to 500 mg of ascorbic acid daily.

The duration of use is determined by the doctor based on the course of the disease and the blood values.Overdose may cause nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, sweating and weakness.In severe cases, acute renal failure or hemolysis may occur.If you forget a dose, you should not take twice as much.Abrupt discontinuation of treatment should be discussed with your doctor.

Intake

The ampoules are intended for peripheral venous injection and are slowly administered intravenously by medical staff.Oral vitamin C supplements are generally preferable; intravenous vitamin C is only used when oral supplements are not possible or sufficiently effective.If artificial nutrition is given, it is given as a separate injection.

Patient information

Intravenous injection of high doses of vitamin C can lead to kidney stones and acute kidney failure.Patients with renal impairment should be examined regularly.In cases of G6PD deficiency, high doses can lead to hemolysis.The ampoules must not be mixed with medicines whose effect is reduced by chemical reduction.Children and the elderly should ensure adequate fluid intake.Diabetics should note that parenteral administration of ascorbic acid can interfere with the detection reaction of glucose in the blood.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but the use of more than 100 to 500 mg of vitamin C per day is not recommended.There are no known effects on fertility.
