Instructions for use for FOLSÄURE FORTE HEVERT® ampoules, 10X2 ml
Folic acid Hevert forte ampoules
Folic acid Hevert forte ampoules are a vitamin preparation that is used to treat folic acid deficiency in dialysis patients when oral administration is not possible and the standard dosage is not sufficient.Folic acid is a B vitamin that is involved in numerous metabolic processes, particularly protein metabolism and DNA-synthesis.Meeting folic acid needs is often difficult because it is mainly found in vegetables, which many people do not consume enough of.In addition, a large proportion of folic acid is lost through heat and light when preparing food.
Area of application
Folic acid Hevert forte ampoules are used to treat folic acid deficiency in dialysis patients when oral substitution is not possible and the standard dosage is not sufficient.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Folic acid Hevert forte ampoules contain the following ingredients: One ampoule with 2 ml solution contains 20 mg folic acid as an active ingredient. In addition, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide solution 25% (m/V) and water for injections are included.
Contraindications
The product should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients mentioned.
Dosage
The recommended use for folic acid Hevert forte ampoules is: Inject half to 1 ampoule intramuscularly or intravenously 1 to 3 times a week.If only part of the ampoule contents is used, the remaining ampoule contents must be discarded.
Intake
Inject ampoule intramuscularly or intravenously.
Patient information
Even in life-threatening megaloblastic anemia, the diagnosis of a possible vitamin B12 deficiency must be ruled out before starting therapy because of the risk of irreversible neurological disorders.Since folic acid and vitamin B12 cause an increase in reticulocytes in the blood, administration of one of the two vitamins can under certain circumstances mask the deficiency of the other vitamin.
No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy, no more than 5 mg of folic acid may be taken daily, as the safety of higher doses is not guaranteed. There are no known risks to the unborn child for doses of up to 5 mg folic acid per day.
During breastfeeding, no more than 5 mg of folic acid may be taken daily, as the safety of higher doses is not guaranteed. There are no known risks for the infant for doses of up to 5 mg folic acid per day.
Notes
This medicine contains sodium;but less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per ampoule. This means it is almost “sodium free”.No prescription is required for this product.
Causes of folic acid deficiency
Folic acid deficiency can be caused by various factors, including regular dialysis treatments, drug treatment for cancer, taking certain medications such as the pill, a diet low in vegetables, chronic diarrhea and an overactive thyroid.
Risks
There is a connection between folic acid deficiency and cardiovascular disease, hearing impairment and a decline in mental performance.
Symptoms of folic acid deficiency
A deficiency of folic acid can be noticeable through an increase in homocysteine in the blood, changes in the mucous membranes in the oral cavity, gastrointestinal disorders with diarrhea and changes in red blood cells (macrocytic anemia).
