Perenterol Junior 250 mg is a medicinal product used for the treatment of acute diarrhoea, traveller's diarrhoea and tube-fed diarrhoea. It contains the active ingredient Saccharomyces cerevisiae dry yeast and is supplied as a powder for ingestion. The dosage depends on the age of the patient and should only be taken in consultation with a doctor. To prevent travellers' diarrhoea, it is recommended to take the medicine 5 days before departure. Perenterol Junior should be taken in sufficient liquid or with food. The duration of treatment depends on the type of symptoms. In the case of diarrhoea, treatment should be continued for a few days after the symptoms have subsided, while in the prevention of travellers' diarrhoea, treatment should be given for the entire duration of the journey. The medicine should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be used after the expiry date. Perenterol Junior is well tolerated but may cause flatulence. It should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to the ingredients or if the patient has a central venous catheter in place. In certain clinical pictures such as HIV-infections or in children under 2 years of age, Perenterol Junior should only be used after consulting a doctor. Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding are not advised to use it. The package leaflet contains further important instructions and information on possible side effects.
