Area of application

Magnetrans® extra 243 mg hard capsules are a magnesium preparation that is used in cases of proven magnesium deficiency if this is the cause of disorders of muscle activity such as neuromuscular disorders or leg cramps.Each hard capsule contains 403 mg of heavy magnesium oxide, which is equivalent to 243 mg of magnesium.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in Magnetrans® extra 243 mg hard capsules is heavy magnesium oxide.Each hard capsule contains 403 mg of heavy magnesium oxide, which is equivalent to 243 mg of magnesium.In addition, the preparation contains microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, macrogol 4000, sodium dodecyl sulfate, purified water, black iron (III) oxide hydrate, iron(II,III) oxide, iron (III) oxide and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

Magnetrans® extra 243 mg hard capsules must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to magnesium oxide or any of the other ingredients, if you have severe kidney dysfunction, suffer from myasthenia gravis, are prone to (calcium) magnesium-ammonium phosphate stones or suffer from a conduction disorder between the atrium and the ventricle (AV block).The medicine should also not be taken if there is significant water and salt loss (desiccosis).If necessary, your doctor should check by measuring the salts (electrolytes) in the blood whether there is a contraindication due to the state of your mineral balance, such as excess magnesium (hypermagnesemia) or excess potassium (hyperkalemia).

Dosage and intake

Unless otherwise prescribed, adults and young people over 12 years of age take one of the magnesium capsules daily.Take the capsule with some liquid, such as a glass of water, in the morning with breakfast.Some minerals and medicines can reduce the absorption of magnesium.Therefore, do not take Magnetrans® extra at the same time as iron, fluorides or tetracyclines (certain antibiotics).There should be at least 2 to 3 hours between taking these substances and the magnesium capsules.Aminoquinolines (against malaria), quinidine and related substances (for cardiac arrhythmias), certain antibiotics and penicillamine (for rheumatism) should not be used at the same time as Magnetrans® capsules due to the mutual influence on absorption into the body.

Patient information

Particular caution is required if you have mild to moderate kidney dysfunction or if you are known to have a tendency to form infected kidney stones during a urinary tract infection.In these cases you should only take the medicine with particular caution and after consulting your doctor.To date, no effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been reported.However, if the preparation is taken in high doses and for a long period of time, symptoms of fatigue may occur, which can impair attention.

Pregnancy

Before taking any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.There are no contraindications to taking it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.There have been no reports of adverse effects during pregnancy/breastfeeding in humans.However, human experience with the use of magnesium in early pregnancy is very limited.If magnesium is administered shortly before birth, the newborn should be monitored by a doctor for signs of adverse effects (such as respiratory depression, muscle weakness) during the first 24 to 48 hours of life.

Notes

If you have diarrhea, you should temporarily stop taking it.After stool normalization, the medicine can be taken again in a smaller amount.If the kidney function is impaired and the drug is taken over a long period of time, the magnesium level in the blood must be checked regularly.
