Polysept® ointment is ideal for the spot treatment of smaller wounds and particularly sensitive skin areas.The antiseptic protects the wound and ensures an optimal healing environment.Thanks to its smooth consistency, the ointment is easy to apply and forms a protective film that keeps the wound moist and supports healing.

Areas of application include repeated, time-limited use on superficial wounds and burns as well as care and protection on infected and difficult-to-heal skin areas.

Tip: If you have deep or heavily soiled wounds or if you have symptoms that do not improve after two to five days, you should consult a doctor.

Effect and areas of application

The active ingredient povidone-iodine slowly releases iodine, which has a germicidal effect and fights bacteria, fungi as well as certain viruses and protozoa.At the same time, it protects against infections and promotes wound healing.

Polysept® is suitable for the treatment of acute injuries such as cuts and abrasions or minor burns, chronic wounds such as pressure sores and leg ulcers, infected skin diseases and wounds that are difficult to heal, as well as for disinfecting the skin before operations, injections and blood samples.

Yes, Polysept® solution and Polysept® ointment can be used in children from one year of age.

Both products can be applied one to several times a day.The exact duration depends on the wound healing.If there is no improvement after two to five days, a doctor should be consulted.

The brown color of Polysept® solution and ointment indicates their effectiveness.Discoloration indicates diminishing effectiveness.In this case the product should be reapplied.

Application

Ingredients

The active ingredient is povidone-iodine.

1g of ointment contains 0.1g of povidone-iodine (average molecular weight 44,000, with a content of 10% available iodine).

The other ingredients are macrogol, sodium hydroxide and purified water.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or another existing (manifest) thyroid disease, if you have the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before, during and after use of radio-iodine as part of radiation therapy or a diagnostic examination, if at the same timeUse preparations containing mercury or in newborns, infants and small children under one year of age.

Dosage

Recommended use of Polysept ointment:

Undiluted for direct disinfection on the skin.

Diluted for ablutions, compresses or baths:

Rinses: 1:2 to 1:20.

Antiseptic washes: 1:2 to 1:25.

Antiseptic partial baths: 1:25.

Antiseptic full baths: 1:100.

Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The preparation is intended exclusively for external use.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the product.

Take special care when using it if you suffer from thyroid disease or have goiter.In this case, you should only use the preparation over a longer period of time and over a large area if your doctor has expressly instructed you to do so (e.g. over 10% of the body surface and longer than 14 days).Even after therapy has ended (up to 3 months), early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be monitored.Your doctor may monitor thyroid function.

The use of the preparation can lead to temporary skin discoloration on the part of the body to be treated, which is caused by the natural color of the drug.

Since older people are more likely to suffer from thyroid dysfunction, large-scale and long-term use of the preparation should only be carried out in older people (from 65 years of age) after the doctor's express instructions.If necessary, your doctor will monitor thyroid function.

Long-term use in patients with impaired renal function should be avoided.Monitoring of thyroid function should be considered.

After using the preparation, the doctor will check thyroid function.

The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the preparation by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the breastfeeding mother's body must be avoided.
