Polysept® ointment - For smaller, sensitive skin areas

Polysept® ointment is ideal for the spot treatment of smaller wounds and particularly sensitive skin areas.The antiseptic protects the wound and ensures an optimal healing environment.Thanks to its smooth consistency, the ointment is easy to apply and forms a protective film that keeps the wound moist and supports healing.

Area of application

The medicine is a germicidal agent (antiseptic) for use on skin and wounds.It is used repeatedly and for a limited period of time for antiseptic wound treatment of damaged skin, such as pressure sores, lower leg ulcers, superficial wounds, burns and infected and superinfected skin diseases.The ointment can be used in adults, adolescents and children over one year old.

The ointment contains 100 mg of povidone-iodine and 10 mg of iodine per 100 mg.Macrogol, sodium hydroxide and purified water are included as excipients.

Contraindications

The product must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Its use is also not permitted if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or another existing thyroid disease, the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before, during and after the use of radio-iodine as part of radiation therapy or a diagnostic examination, as well as with the simultaneous use of preparations containing mercury.In addition, the preparation must not be used on newborns, infants and small children under one year of age.

Dosage

The recommended dose, unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, is to be applied evenly to the damaged area once or several times a day.If necessary, a bandage can then be applied.The brown color of the drug indicates its effectiveness.Increasing discoloration indicates a decrease in effectiveness.If the color is completely discolored, it is no longer effective.If you notice extensive discoloration of the ointment, you should reapply the product.

The application should be continued as long as there are still signs of inflammation.If your symptoms have not improved after regular use for 2 to 5 days or if symptoms recur after treatment has been completed, please consult your doctor.

If you have used more than you should, please contact your doctor, especially if you notice symptoms of acute iodine poisoning.The preparation is intended for external use only.If you accidentally swallow a large amount, please contact your doctor immediately.

Do not use a double dose if you forget the previous dose.You could jeopardize the success of the treatment if you stop using it.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before stopping treatment.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the product.Take special care when using it if you suffer from thyroid disease or have goiter.In this case, you should only use the product over a longer period of time and over large areas if your doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended (up to 3 months), early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be monitored.Your doctor may monitor thyroid function.

The use of the preparation can lead to temporary skin discoloration on the part of the body to be treated, which is caused by the natural color of the drug.Since older people are more likely to suffer from thyroid dysfunction, large-scale and long-term use of the preparation should only be carried out in older people (from 65 years of age) after the doctor's express instructions.If necessary, your doctor will monitor thyroid function.

Long-term use in patients with impaired renal function should be avoided.Monitoring of thyroid function should be considered. After using the preparation, the doctor will check thyroid function.

The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the preparation by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the breastfeeding mother's body must be avoided.

Ingredients
