Instructions for use for POLYSEPT Ointment, 300 g

POLYSEPT Ointment is an antiseptic used for damaged skin, such as decubitus (pressure ulcer), leg ulcer, superficial wounds and burns, as well as infected and superinfected skin conditions. It contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine. Before use, it should be noted that the ointment must not be used if one is allergic to iodine or suffers from hyperthyroidism or existing thyroid disorders. Use in newborns and infants up to the age of 6 months should only be done under a doctor's instructions and in an extremely restricted manner. Elderly people and pregnant or breastfeeding women should also use the medicinal product only on medical advice. Certain interactions with other medicinal products should be taken into account during use. Possible side effects are allergic reactions of the skin, iodine-induced hyperthyroidism and disturbances of the electrolyte balance and kidney function. The ointment should be used as long as there are still signs of inflammation, but not longer than 5 days without medical advice. The dosage and instructions for use should be followed carefully. The ointment must not be used if you are allergic to the ingredients, suffer from hyperthyroidism, have certain thyroid diseases or have had an upcoming or recently completed radioiodine therapy. A doctor should be consulted before use in infants under 6 months of age. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, use should also be on medical advice only and extremely limited.
