Polysept Ointment contains the active substance povidone-iodine and is used for repeated, time-limited application as an antiseptic for damaged skin such as pressure ulcers, lower leg ulcers, superficial wounds and burns as well as infected and superinfected skin diseases. Important notes are that the medicinal product must not be used in case of allergy to iodine or any other ingredient, in case of hyperthyroidism or other thyroid diseases as well as certain skin diseases and radiotherapy of the thyroid gland with iodine. Special caution should be exercised in certain groups of people such as newborns, infants up to 6 months of age and the elderly. Dosage and instructions for use vary according to age group and should be individualised by the doctor.
