This medicine is suitable for binding excess stomach acid.It contains the active ingredient magaldrate and belongs to the group of antacids.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Magaldrat-ratiopharm® 800 mg chewable tablets are used to treat heartburn and acid-related stomach problems as well as for the symptomatic treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers.The chewable tablets are practical for on the go and have a pleasant caramel taste.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each chewable tablet contains 800 mg of magaldrate as the active ingredient.Other ingredients include sorbitol, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide and caramel flavor.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to Magaldrat or any of the other ingredients.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Adults and children over 12 years of age can take 1-2 chewable tablets several times a day as needed.The maximum daily dose is 8 chewable tablets, which corresponds to 6400 mg of magaldrate.

The medicine should only be used for short-term treatment of your symptoms.If symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, you should consult a doctor.Persistent or recurring symptoms could indicate a serious illness.

In the event of an overdose, changes in stool behavior such as softening of the stool and increased stool frequency may occur.If you have taken too many tablets, please see your doctor.

If you forget to take a dose, simply take your normal dose at the next time you take it.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take a dose.

If you interrupt or stop taking your medication early due to side effects, please talk to your doctor.

Intake

The chewable tablets should be chewed well and then washed down with a little liquid or sucked.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking it if you suffer from kidney problems, Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, a phosphate diet or impaired bone metabolism.Children under 12 years of age should also not take the medicine.

If you have one of the illnesses mentioned, please ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice before taking it.

The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

The benefit-risk ratio should be carefully weighed before taking aluminum-containing drugs to bind excess stomach acid during pregnancy.If you are pregnant, you should only use the medicine for a short time to avoid exposing your unborn child to aluminum.

Aluminum compounds pass into breast milk.There is no risk to the newborn as only very small amounts are absorbed.

Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.

Notes

In the case of stomach or duodenal ulcers, testing for Helicobacter pylori bacteria and, if found, an approved treatment to destroy these bacteria should be considered.

In the case of kidney dysfunction and long-term use of high doses, aluminum can be stored, especially in the nerve and bone tissue, and phosphate depletion can occur.

Even in people with healthy kidneys, slightly elevated blood levels of aluminum have occasionally been found.Aluminum blood levels should be checked regularly for long-term use.

If symptoms persist for a long time and/or recur more frequently, a serious illness such as an ulcer or cancer should be ruled out.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
