This medicine is suitable for binding excess stomach acid.It is used to relieve symptoms of conditions that require the neutralization of stomach acid.These include heartburn and acid-related stomach problems as well as stomach and duodenal ulcers.The chewable tablets are convenient to take on the go and have a pleasant caramel taste.

Area of application

The medicine contains the active ingredient magaldrate and belongs to the group of antacids.These are used to neutralize excess stomach acid.It is used for heartburn and acid-related stomach problems as well as for the symptomatic treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers.

Each chewable tablet contains 800 mg of magaldrate as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide, sorbitol and caramel flavor.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Adults and children over 12 years of age can take 1 to 2 chewable tablets several times a day if necessary.The maximum daily dose is 8 chewable tablets, which corresponds to 6400 mg of magaldrate.

The medicine should only be used for short-term treatment of symptoms.If symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, you should consult a doctor.Persistent or recurring symptoms could indicate a serious illness.

In the event of an overdose, changes in stool behavior such as softening of the stool and increased frequency of bowel movements may occur.In this case you should consult your doctor.If you forget to take it, simply take the normal dose at the next time you take it.Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you interrupt or stop taking your medication early due to side effects, please talk to your doctor.

Intake

The chewable tablets should be chewed well and then washed down with a little liquid or sucked.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking it if you suffer from kidney problems, Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, a phosphate diet or impaired bone metabolism.Children under 12 years of age should also not take the medicine.If one of the above-mentioned illnesses applies to you, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice before taking it.

If symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks or recur, you should see a doctor.Tell your doctor immediately if you notice blood in your stool or vomit blood.

The medicine has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

The benefit-risk ratio should be carefully weighed before taking aluminum-containing drugs to bind excess stomach acid during pregnancy.If you are pregnant, you should only use the medicine for a short time to avoid exposing your unborn child to aluminum.Aluminum compounds pass into breast milk, but there is no risk to the newborn.

Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.

Notes

In the case of stomach or duodenal ulcers, an examination for certain bacteria (Helicobacter pylori) and, if detected, an approved treatment to destroy these bacteria should be considered.If there is impaired kidney function and long-term use of high doses, aluminum can be stored, especially in the nerve and bone tissue, and phosphate depletion can occur.Even in people with healthy kidneys, slightly elevated blood levels of aluminum have occasionally been found.Aluminum blood levels should be checked regularly for long-term use.If symptoms persist for a long time and/or recur more frequently, a serious illness such as an ulcer or cancer should be ruled out.

Magaldrat-ratiopharm® 800 mg chewable tablets contain sorbitol.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
