Lactulose-ratiopharm® syrup: Gentle and well-tolerated support for constipation

Digestive problems such as constipation can make it difficult to empty the bowels and are often accompanied by a feeling of fullness, abdominal pain and pain during bowel movements.Possible causes include a low-fiber diet, stress, an unfamiliar environment or hormonal changes, such as those that can occur during menopause or pregnancy.Lactulose-ratiopharm® syrup can help with constipation because the active ingredient lactulose binds water in the intestines, softens the stool and thus makes bowel emptying easier.This allows the constipation and the associated symptoms to be gently resolved, which improves general well-being.

The syrup is well tolerated because the active ingredient lactulose is not absorbed by the body.This reduces the risk of interactions.Lactulose-ratiopharm® syrup is suitable for use with acute symptoms.However, long-term use should only be carried out after consulting a doctor.The syrup is suitable for adults, teenagers and children.For children under 14 years of age, use should be made in consultation with a doctor.The syrup can also be taken during pregnancy.The syrup is easy to dose using the included dosing cup and is particularly easy to take for people who have difficulty swallowing.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Lactulose-ratiopharm® contains the following active ingredients and excipients: 3.34 g lactulose, fructose, galactose, lactose, purified water and 0.07 BE total carbohydrates.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity reactions can occur to all medicines, so the medication should not be used if you have known allergies to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients.The medicine must not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction.It should also not be used in cases of fructose intolerance, lactase intolerance, absorption disorders of glucose or galactose in the intestine, acute inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases or disorders of the water and mineral balance.

Dosage

The quantities given are for guidance only and must be adapted to individual needs.If brain damage is caused by liver damage, adults can initially take 7.5-15 ml of lactulose (5-10 g) 3-4 times a day.For further use, 30-45 ml lactulose (20-30 g) 3-4 times a day is intended to achieve 2-3 soft stools per day.There is a specific rehabilitation plan with three treatments for the rehabilitation of salmonella shedders.Infants and young children should receive 4.5 ml lactulose (3 g) 4 times daily as basic treatment.For constipation, adults can take 7.5-15 ml lactulose (5-10 g) 1-2 times a day, children 4.5-9 ml lactulose (3-6 g) 1-2 times a day.

Intake

The lactulose syrup can be taken regardless of meals.It can be mixed with water or warm drinks such as coffee or tea, or stirred into yogurt, cereal or porridge and taken with these foods.

The duration of treatment depends on the development of the symptoms.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, medication should only be taken after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist.There is no experience with the use of Lactulose-ratiopharm® during pregnancy and breastfeeding.However, no harmful effects are known.

Notes

After opening, Lactulose-ratiopharm® syrup has a shelf life of 12 months.Long-term storage may cause discoloration, but this does not affect the effectiveness or quality.No prescription is required for this product.

Other

The laxative effect can occur after 2-10 hours; if the amounts are insufficient, it can take 24-48 hours before the first bowel movement.While taking the medication, care should be taken to eat a diet rich in fiber to support the laxative effect.Raw vegetable salads and whole grain products are particularly suitable.Consuming large amounts of fresh yogurt promotes the colonization of the colon with bifidus bacteria.Make sure you drink enough fluids (at least 2 liters daily).For diabetics, the synthesis-related content of lactulose in digestible carbohydrates must be taken into account (100 ml contains a maximum of 17 g = 1.4 BE).
