Diclofenac HEUMANN gel is an analgesic medicinal product used for the external treatment of pain, inflammation and swelling in sports and accident injuries, rheumatic diseases of the soft tissues and degenerative diseases of the upper and lower limbs. It contains the active substance diclofenac sodium and is used in adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over. Some precautions should be observed before use. For example, the gel should not be applied to open wounds, inflamed skin or mucous membranes. If symptoms such as severe redness, swelling or overheating of the joints occur, a doctor should be consulted. The recommended dose is a cherry- to walnut-sized amount of gel 3-4 times a day, depending on the size of the area to be treated. The maximum daily dose is 16 g of gel. The gel is applied thinly to the affected area and rubbed in gently. Before applying a bandage, the gel should dry on the skin for a few minutes. The duration of application depends on the symptoms and the underlying disease. The gel should not be used for longer than 1-3 weeks unless a doctor recommends otherwise. Possible side effects include skin inflammation with blistering, asthma, swelling of the face, rash, itching and sensitivity to light. If such side effects occur, the gel should not be used any further and a doctor should be consulted. The gel should not be used in children under 14 years of age. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use. The gel has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and operate machinery. The medicinal product should be stored at a temperature below 25 °C and has a shelf life of 3 months after opening the tube.
