Area of application

Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn gastro-resistant tablets is used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (e.g. heartburn, acid reflux) in adults.Reflux is the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, which can become painfully inflamed.This can cause symptoms such as a painful burning sensation in the chest that goes up to the throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid reflux).

After just one day of treatment with Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn, your symptoms of reflux and heartburn may be relieved, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief.To relieve symptoms, it may be necessary to take the tablets on 2-3 consecutive days.If you don't feel better or feel worse after 2 weeks, contact your doctor.

1 Tablet of Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn contains: The active ingredient is pantoprazole.One enteric-coated tablet contains 20 mg pantoprazole (as sodium 1.5 H2O).The other ingredients are: Mannitol (Ph. Eur.), Crospovidone (Type B), sodium carbonate, hyprolose, calcium stearate (Ph. Eur.) [pflanzlich], hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron (III) hydroxide oxide x H2O (E 172), propylene glycol, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30% (Ph. Eur.) (contains polysorbate 80, sodium dodecyl sulfate), triethyl citrate, talc.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

The recommended dose is one tablet daily.Do not exceed this recommended daily dose of 20 mg pantoprazole.Take this medicine for at least 2-3 consecutive days.Stop taking Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn when you are completely free of symptoms.After just one day of treatment with Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn, your symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn can be relieved.However, this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief.

If you do not notice any improvement in symptoms after 2 weeks of continuous use of this medicine, contact your doctor.Do not take Pantoprazole HEUMANN 20 mg for heartburn for more than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor.Take the tablet at the same time every day before a meal.Swallow the tablet whole with a little water.Do not bite or break the tablet.

Patient information

If you have had to undergo treatment for heartburn or indigestion for 4 weeks or longer, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.You are over 55 years old and treat digestive disorders daily with non-prescription medicines.You are over 55 years of age and have new or recently changed reflux symptoms.You have had a stomach ulcer or stomach surgery in the past.You have liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).You see your doctor regularly because of severe symptoms or serious illnesses.It is planned that you will have an endoscopy or a breathing test called a 13C-urea breath test.You are scheduled to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A).You have ever experienced a skin reaction as a result of treatment with a medicine similar to this product which also reduces stomach acid.

Ask your doctor for specific advice if you are taking pantoprazole and HIV-protease inhibitors such as atazanavir or nelfinavir (used to treat HIV-infection) at the same time.Do not take this medicine for more than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor.Talk to your doctor if reflux symptoms (e.g. heartburn or acid reflux) have not gone away after 2 weeks.Your doctor will decide whether long-term treatment with this medicine is necessary.

Long-term use of this medicine carries additional risks such as: reduced absorption of vitamin B12 and vitamin B12 deficiency if your vitamin B12 levels are already low. Please contact your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms that could indicate low vitamin B12 levels: extreme tiredness or listlessness, tingling, sore or red tongue, mouth ulcers, muscle weakness, impaired vision, problems with memory, confusion, depression.Hip, wrist or spine fractures, especially if you already have osteoporosis (decreased bone density) or if your doctor has told you that you are at increased risk of osteoporosis (e.g. because you are taking corticosteroids).Falling magnesium levels in the blood (possible symptoms: fatigue, muscle twitching, disorientation, cramps, dizziness, rapid heartbeat).Low magnesium levels can also lead to a reduction in potassium or calcium concentrations in the blood.Talk to your doctor if you have taken this medicine for more than 4 weeks.Your doctor will then determine whether your magnesium levels will be monitored regularly through blood tests.

Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms before or after taking this medicine, which could be a sign of another, more serious condition: unintentional weight loss that is not due to a diet or exercise program, vomiting, especially if vomiting occurs repeatedly, vomiting blood;This may look like dark coffee grounds in the vomit, blood in the stool which may look black or tarry, difficulty swallowing or pain when swallowing, paleness and feeling weak (anaemia), chest pain, stomach pain, severe and/or persistent diarrhoea, as this medicine has been associated with a slight increase in infectious diarrhoea. If you develop a skin rash, particularly on areas of the skin exposed to the sun, tell your doctor straight away as you are starting treatment with the productshould probably cancel.Don't forget to mention other adverse health effects such as joint pain.Serious skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), and erythema multiforme, have been reported in association with pantoprazole treatment.Stop using pantoprazole and seek medical attention immediately if you notice any of the symptoms described in the “Side effects” category associated with these serious skin reactions.

Your doctor may order some tests.Before a scheduled blood test, tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine.After just one day of treatment with this preparation, your symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn may be relieved, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief.You should not take it as a preventive measure.If you suffer from recurrent heartburn or indigestion over a long period of time, remember to see your doctor regularly.The medicine should not be taken by children and adolescents under 18 years of age as there is a lack of safety information for this younger age group.

If you experience side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision, you should not drive or operate machines.

Pregnancy

You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
