Directions for use of the article Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm 500 mg Chewable Tablets: Hydrotalcit-ratiopharm 500 mg Chewable Tablets are used for the symptomatic treatment of conditions where stomach acid needs to be bound, such as heartburn and acid-related stomach complaints and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It contains the active substance hydrotalcite. Before using Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm, certain points should be observed. It must not be taken if you are allergic to hydrotalcite or any of the other ingredients, if you have severe kidney dysfunction or a low phosphate concentration in the blood (hypophosphataemia), or if you suffer from muscle weakness or fatigue (myasthenia gravis). In case of prolonged or recurrent stomach complaints, treatment with Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm should not last longer than 14 days and a doctor should be consulted. The dosage of Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm for adolescents from 12 years and adults is 1-2 chewable tablets 1-6 times a day. The chewable tablets should be chewed well and taken with liquid. The medicine must not be used for longer than 2 weeks, except on medical advice. When using Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm, possible interactions with other medicines should be taken into account. A time interval of 1-2 hours from other medicinal products should be observed. Taking it with acidic foods should be avoided as this can lead to an increased absorption of aluminium. Possible side effects of Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm are gastrointestinal complaints such as soft stools, diarrhoea and vomiting. If high doses are taken over a long period of time, a decrease in phosphate levels and an increase in magnesium levels in the blood may occur. Allergic reactions are also possible. Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm should not be used for children under 12 years of age. In case of impaired kidney function and chronic intake of high doses, there is a possibility of poisoning such as an increase in magnesium levels and serum aluminium levels. Pregnant women are advised to take Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm for a short period of time and at low doses during pregnancy to avoid aluminium exposure of the child. Hydrotalcite-ratiopharm contains sodium and sorbitol. The chewable tablets should be kept out of the reach of children and must not be used after the expiry date.
