Instructions for use for Talidat chewing pastilles, 100 pieces
Area of application
This medicine is used to bind excess stomach acid and is used for the symptomatic treatment of diseases in which stomach acid needs to be bound. These include stomach and duodenal ulcers as well as acid-related stomach problems such as heartburn. If a gastric or duodenal ulcer is suspected, an examination for H. pylori should be carried out and, if detected, an approved antibacterial combination therapy should be considered, as this usually leads to healing of the ulcer disease.
No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
The active ingredient in this medicine is hydrotalcite with a dosage of 500 mg per chewable tablet. The other ingredients include maltitol, arabic gum, maltodextrin, ethanol, caramel flavor, sodium cyclamate, liquid paraffin, xanthan gum, bleached wax and saccharin sodium.
Contraindications
The preparation must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to hydrotalcite, peppermint oil or any of the other ingredients. The medicine should also not be used if you have impaired kidney function, low phosphate concentration in the blood or a neurological disorder called myasthenia gravis.
Dosage
Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age can take 1 to 2 chewable tablets several times a day if necessary. The daily dose should not exceed 12 chewable tablets, corresponding to 6000 mg hydrotalcite. The medicine is taken several times a day between meals and at bedtime.
The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity as well as the course of the disease. If the symptoms persist for longer than 2 weeks during treatment, you should consult a doctor. In the event of an overdose, poisoning is unlikely because aluminum and magnesium are only slightly absorbed. However, changes in stool behavior such as softening of stools and an increase in stool frequency may occur.Therapeutic measures are usually not necessary.
If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose, but continue treatment at the prescribed dose.In any case, speak to your doctor before you interrupt the treatment yourself or end it prematurely.
Intake
The chewable tablets are easy to chew and are then washed down with a little liquid.Other medicines should generally be taken 1 to 2 hours before or after taking this preparation.
Patient information
Long-lasting and recurring stomach problems can be a sign of a serious illness.Treatment with the drug should therefore not last longer than 14 days without a medical examination. If tarry stools, blood in the stool or vomiting of blood occur, see a doctor immediately. If you have impaired kidney function, Alzheimer's disease, other forms of dementia, low phosphate levels or a low-phosphate diet, the medicine should not be taken in high doses and for a long period of time.
The preparation should not be used to treat children under 12 years of age as there is insufficient experience in this age group. No effects on the ability to drive or use machines were observed. No special precautions are required.
Pregnancy
Before taking any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice. The benefit-risk ratio should be carefully considered before taking hydrotalcite during pregnancy. The medicine should only be used short-term during pregnancy to avoid possible aluminum exposure to the unborn child.Substances containing aluminum generally pass into breast milk. There are no data on the excretion of the drug into breast milk. There is no risk to the newborn as only very small amounts are absorbed.
Notes
For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.
Other
If kidney function is impaired, there are risks of poisoning from chronic ingestion of high quantities, such as excess magnesium and an increase in serum aluminum levels.Long-term intake of high quantities and a low-phosphate diet can lead to phosphate depletion with the risk of osteomalcia. Therefore, in this case, long-term intake of high quantities should be avoided.
Some of the aluminum is absorbed and leads to an increase in the serum concentration of aluminum and an increase in aluminum excretion via the kidneys.Serum aluminum levels return to normal in three to four days after stopping treatment.A small portion of the magnesium is absorbed. The magnesium concentration in the serum usually remains the same due to excretion via the kidneys.
However, with impaired kidney function and long-term intake of high quantities, gradual aluminum deposition, especially in the nerve and bone tissue, as well as an excess of magnesium and even magnesium poisoning can occur, which is characterized by muscle weakness, loss of reflexes, fatigue, paralysis, coma and cardiac arrhythmias.Aluminum absorbed into the nervous tissue has a neurotoxic effect that has been proven in animal experiments.Aluminum deposits in the brain have been demonstrated in dialysis encephalopathy.Aluminum-associated osteomalacia can occur in dialysis patients.Aluminum-associated anemia has also been described.
For long-term use, aluminum blood levels should be monitored regularly and not exceed 40 μg/L.This is particularly true in cases of kidney failure.
