What is athlete's foot?
Athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a fungal infection of the feet caused by filamentous fungi such as dermatophytes and yeast. This infection often occurs between the toes, the soles of the feet, and the edges of the feet.Athlete's foot is a common skin disease that affects approximately 30 percent of the population and 70 percent have been affected at least once in their life.
Symptoms of athlete's foot
Symptoms of athlete's foot can vary, but typical signs include itching, peeling skin, and a mild burning sensation between the toes.In the early stages, the infection manifests itself as reddened or whitish scaly skin, especially between the toes.Advanced infections can lead to more severe skin peeling, blisters and inflammation. The affected skin may be swollen, thickened, painfully cracked or whitish in color. When the fungus migrates over the back of the foot, the skin becomes very flaky.

Treatment of athlete's foot
An athlete's foot infection will not heal on its own without appropriate and thorough treatment. There is a risk of the fungus spreading to other areas of the skin and nails.Appropriate drug treatment is essential.Fungi are stubborn and this disease can only be successfully treated through regular and consistent treatment with antimycotics.Using a topical antifungal such as Terbiderm cream/gel/spray will improve annoying symptoms such as itching. The skin changes disappear and the fungus disappears.
Prevent athlete's foot!
The healing process is even faster if the fungus is deprived of the conditions for its existence and makes reinfection more difficult.Wash your feet daily and keep your foot skin supple.Dry the spaces between your toes well and keep them dry.Change your shoes every day and let them dry.Don't swap shoes!Change socks and towels daily. If possible, wash towels and socks at 60 °C (preferably 95 °C).Never walk barefoot!Always wear slippers at home and bathing shoes in public barefoot areas.Allow plenty of air to your feet.Make sure you wear suitable footwear and choose breathable socks and shoes.Carry out the application consistently and for the recommended period of time, even if there are no longer any symptoms!
