The active ingredients of CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets are calcium and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).Each chewable tablet contains 1,250 mg calcium carbonate, equivalent to 500 mg calcium, and 10.0 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, equivalent to 25 micrograms colecalciferol or 1000 IU vitamin D3.

The other ingredients include Isomalt,medium chain triglycerides, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and silicon dioxide hydrate.

Area of application

CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets are used for the prophylaxis and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in older people.They also serve as a calcium and vitamin D supplement to support the treatment of osteoporosis (bone loss).

Dosage

Adults and the elderly take 1 chewable tablet daily, which must be chewed before swallowing.It can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals.It is important to get enough calcium through your diet, for example through dairy products, vegetables and mineral water.It is intended as a long-term treatment, so the duration of use should be discussed with a doctor.

CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets are not suitable for children and adolescents.Oxalic acid, found in spinach and rhubarb, and phytic acid, found in whole grains, can interfere with calcium absorption in the intestines.Therefore, you should not take calcium-containing medicines two hours before and after eating such foods.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

You should not take the chewable tablets during pregnancy.The daily dose of calcium should not be higher than 1,500 mg and the daily dose of vitamin D3 should not be higher than 600 IU.Long-term overdoses of calcium and vitamin D during pregnancy must be avoided as this can lead to high calcium levels in the blood and have negative effects on the unborn child.

The chewable tablets can be used during breastfeeding.Since calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk, you should first consult your doctor about whether your child is already taking preparations containing vitamin D.

Contraindications

If you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, the product should not be used. CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets must not be taken if there are elevated calcium blood levels, increased calcium excretion in the urine, hyperfunction of the parathyroid gland, bone marrow cancer, cancer with bone metastases, prolonged immobilization of the limbs accompanied by hypercalcemia and/or hypercalciuria, kidney stones, calcium deposits in the kidneys, vitamin D3 overdose and severe kidney problems.
