Area of application

CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets are a calcium vitamin D3 preparation.It is used for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in older people and as a calcium and vitamin D supplement to support the treatment of osteoporosis (bone loss).

Ingredients of CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets: The active ingredients are calcium and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).Each chewable tablet contains 1,250 mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 500 mg calcium) and 10.0 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate (powder form) (equivalent to [pflanzlich]25 micrograms colecalciferol = 1000 IU vitamin D3).The other ingredients are Isomalt,Starch, modified (corn), sucrose (sugar), medium chain triglycerides, colloidal silica and silica hydrate.

Contraindications

If you are hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, the product should not be used. CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets must not be taken if you have elevated calcium blood levels (hypercalcemia), if you have increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria), if you suffer from an overactive parathyroid gland (hyperparathyroidism), if you have bone marrow cancer (myeloma), if you suffer from cancer that spreads to your bones (bone metastases).Prolonged immobilization of the limbs (prolonged immobilization) accompanied by hypercalcemia and/or hypercalciuria, in kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), in calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis), in vitamin D3 overdose (hypervitaminosis D) and in severe kidney problems.

Dosage

Recommended use of CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets: Adults and older people take 1 chewable tablet daily (corresponding to 500 mg calcium and 1000 IU vitamin D3).The tablet must be chewed before swallowing.It can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals.Make sure that you get enough calcium from your diet (e.g. through dairy products, vegetables and mineral water).Taking it is a long-term treatment.Talk to your doctor about how long you should take the chewable tablets.

CALCIMED® D3 500 mg/1000 IU chewable tablets are not intended for use in children and adolescents.Please note that oxalic acid (found in spinach and rhubarb) and phytic acid (found in whole grain products) can reduce calcium absorption in the intestines.You should not take calcium-containing medicines for two hours before and after eating foods with a high content of oxalic or phytic acid.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.If you are pregnant you should not take the chewable tablets.During pregnancy, the daily dose of calcium should not be higher than 1,500 mg and the daily dose of vitamin D3 should not be higher than 600 IU (international units).Long-term overdoses of calcium and vitamin D during pregnancy must be avoided as this can lead to high calcium levels in the blood and have negative effects on the unborn child.The chewable tablets can be used during breastfeeding.Since calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk, you should first consult your doctor about whether your child is already taking preparations containing vitamin D.
