Instructions for use for Thioctacid 600 HR film-coated tablets, 30 pcs
Area of application
Thioctic acid, also known as alpha lipoic acid, is a substance that the body produces naturally and influences certain metabolic processes. It has antioxidant properties that protect nerve cells from harmful degradation products. This medicine is used to treat abnormal sensations associated with diabetic nerve damage known as polyneuropathy.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The film-coated tablets contain 600 mg DL-alpha-lipoic acid as the active ingredient. The following excipients are also included: quinoline yellow (aluminum salt), hyprolose, hyprolose (5.0 - 16.0% hydroxypropoxy groups), hypromellose, indigo carmine (aluminum salt), macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, talc and titanium dioxide.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to thioctic acid or any of the other ingredients.
Dosage
Always take the medicine exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose is one film-coated tablet (corresponding to 600 mg thioctic acid) as a single dose approximately 30 minutes before the first meal.Since diabetic nerve damage is a chronic disease, long-term use may be necessary.Discuss the duration of use with your doctor.
Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting and headaches. If a significant overdose is suspected, immediate hospitalization is required. If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.
No prescription is required for this product.
Intake
The film-coated tablets should be taken without chewing and with sufficient liquid on an empty stomach.Concomitant consumption of food may hinder the transfer of thioctic acid into the bloodstream. It is therefore important to take the tablet about half an hour before a meal.
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking the medicine.Children and adolescents should not take the medicine as there is no clinical experience for this age group. No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. It is in accordance with the general principles of pharmacotherapy to use drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding only after careful risk-benefit assessment.
Notes
For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.
Other
Optimal diabetes control is the basis of treatment.Taking the tablet while eating can hinder the absorption of the active ingredient.Regular consumption of alcohol can promote the progression of nervous disorders and impair the success of treatment. The active ingredient is a metal chelator and should not be taken at the same time as metal compounds.Iron and magnesium supplements can be taken at lunchtime or in the evening if the entire daily dose is taken 30 minutes before breakfast.
