Information for use on the medicinal product Magnesium Diasporal 2 mmol ampoules: Magnesium Diasporal 2 mmol is a mineral preparation used to treat magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle activity disorders such as calf cramps. The medicine may also be used in pregnancy-related high blood pressure with fluid retention and protein excretion in the urine, and in pregnancy-related generalised seizures. It may also be used in preterm labour if the serum magnesium level is below normal and the serum calcium level is normal. It is administered intramuscularly or intravenously. The dosage depends on the magnesium serum level and the indication. The exact dosage and duration of use should be discussed with the doctor or pharmacist. In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as muscle weakness, drop in blood pressure, vomiting and EKG-changes may occur. Magnesium intoxication should be treated with intravenous calcium supplementation. Possible side effects include slow pulse, drop in blood pressure, vomiting, headache and restlessness.
