CetiDex® for allergies

Cetirizine dihydrochloride is the active ingredient in the preparation CetiDex®.It is an anti-allergic drug that is used to relieve allergy symptoms.Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine and is often used to treat allergies.It is better tolerated than first-generation active ingredients and helps to cope with everyday life more easily despite seasonal or year-round allergies.

CetiDex® 10 mg film-coated tablets are suitable for relieving nasal and eye symptoms in seasonal allergic rhinitis, such as hay fever, as well as in year-round allergic rhinitis, for example caused by house dust mites.It can also be used to relieve chronic hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria).No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The active ingredient cetirizine suppresses the effects of the body's own messenger substances histamine and prostaglandins in two ways.Firstly, it inhibits the release of these substances from the mast cells, which are part of the immune system's defense cells.Secondly, it displaces the substances from their binding sites, the receptors.Without this binding, forwarding of information is not possible.Histamine and prostaglandins play an important role in the development of inflammation and allergic reactions.

10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride, which is equivalent to 8.42 mg of cetirizine.Excipients are hypromellose, 65 mg lactose 1-water, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, corn starch, pre-gelatinized corn starch, talc and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you have severe kidney disease in which kidney function is severely restricted (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min).The preparation should also not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient cetirizine, one of the other ingredients, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age should take one tablet (10 mg) once daily.Children between 6 and 12 years of age should take half a tablet (5 mg) twice daily.Patients with moderate to severe kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg once daily.If you feel that the effect is too weak or too strong, please contact your doctor.

The length of time you take it depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms.Ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.If you have taken more than you should, please tell your doctor.In the event of an overdose, the side effects described can occur with increased intensity.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.

Intake

The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid, preferably water.They can be taken with or without food.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the drug if you suffer from impaired kidney function.In this case, ask your doctor for advice as a lower dose may be required.If you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, please consult your doctor.It is recommended to avoid taking the product and alcohol at the same time.If you are going to have an allergy test, please ask your doctor if you should stop taking the medicine for a few days before the test.

In clinical studies, the drug at the recommended dose did not cause any signs of impairment of attention, alertness or ability to drive.However, if you drive, carry out work without a secure footing or want to operate machines, you should carefully monitor your reaction after taking the preparation and do not use more than the recommended dose.

Pregnancy

Before taking any medication, always ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.During pregnancy, taking the product should be avoided unless necessary and on medical advice.The medicine should not be taken during breastfeeding as cetirizine passes into breast milk.
