CetiDex® for allergies

Cetirizine is a commonly used drug to relieve allergy symptoms.As a second-generation antihistamine, it is better tolerated than first-generation agents.CetiDex® 10 mg helps to cope with everyday life more easily despite seasonal or year-round allergies.It relieves eye and nose symptoms associated with hay fever or dust and pet allergies, as well as skin symptoms such as hives.

Area of application

Cetirizine dihydrochloride is the active ingredient in CetiDex®.The medicine is used to relieve nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, such as hay fever, and perennial allergic rhinitis, such as house dust mite allergy.It also helps with chronic hives.

Mode of action

Cetirizine suppresses the effects of the messenger substances histamine and prostaglandins in the body.It inhibits the release of these substances from the mast cells and displaces them from their binding sites.This prevents the transmission of information, which reduces inflammation and allergic reactions.

Each film-coated tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride, which corresponds to 8.42 mg cetirizine.Other ingredients include hypromellose, 65 mg lactose 1-water, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, corn starch, pre-gelatinized corn starch, talc and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is severe kidney disease with a creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min or if there is hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, any of the other ingredients, to hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age take one tablet (10 mg) once daily.Children between 6 and 12 years of age take half a tablet (5 mg) twice daily.Patients with moderate to severe kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg once daily.The duration of use depends on the type, duration and course of the symptoms.In case of overdose you should contact your doctor.

Intake

The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid, preferably water.They can be taken with or without food.

Patient information

Particular caution is required if there is impaired renal function, epilepsy or risk of seizures.Taking it at the same time as alcohol should be avoided.Before an allergy test, you should stop taking it because the medicine could influence the test result.In clinical studies, the drug did not show any impairment of attention, alertness or ability to drive.However, you should monitor your reaction after taking it.

Pregnancy

Taking the drug should be avoided by pregnant women.The medicine should not be taken during breastfeeding as cetirizine passes into breast milk.

Notes
