Instructions for use for Infectopedicul solution + nit comb, 250 ml
Description
InfectoPedicul is a solution for the one-time external treatment of the hair in the event of an infestation with head lice (Pediculus capitis). The nit comb is used to remove lice eggs and nits (empty egg shells) from the hair.No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredient and ingredients
The active ingredient of InfectoPedicul is permethrin.Permethrin belongs to the group of active ingredients known as pyrethrins, agents against parasites.86.0 g (100 ml) contains 430.0 mg permethrin 25/75 (cis/trans).The other ingredients are: ethanol 96%, 2-propanol (Ph. Eur), purified water, propylene glycol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate. This medicine contains approximately 39% ethanol (alcohol) by volume.
Application
For treatment, the hair must be thoroughly soaked in the solution. The amount required depends on the thickness of the hair: For short hair, around 25 ml is sufficient, for longer hair around 50 ml is required, for very long and thick hair even more (up to 150 ml for adults and children aged 4 and over).
Before using InfectoPedicul, wash your hair with shampoo but without conditioner and towel dry.Place a fresh, light-colored towel over your shoulders. This will help you better identify any lice that might fall off your head.Massage InfectoPedicul evenly into hair that is still slightly damp.Make sure that the hair near the scalp is particularly well wetted with InfectoPedicul, as this is where most lice and lice eggs are found.Long and particularly thick hair should be separated and treated in strands.
Only use InfectoPedicul undiluted and not together with shampoo, soap or other care products.Allow InfectoPedicul to work on uncovered head hair for 30-45 minutes;then wash it out with clear, warm water.
Before drying your hair, you should comb out any resistant lice eggs that are stuck to the hair. The lice or nit comb is suitable for this. Then dry your hair with a fresh (!) towel.
Dosage
As a rule, a single application of the drug is sufficient. However, if the infestation persists or recurs, the treatment must be repeated after 8 to 10 days.In persistent epidemics, it is often necessary to treat all members of a community (school class, kindergarten group) at the same time, even if not all members have symptoms.
If infested with other body lice, the affected hair and body areas should be treated in the same way. Please note the precautionary measures.
Children up to 3 years: Do not use more than 25 ml in children after the age of 2 months until the age of 3 years.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to permethrin, other pyrethrins or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine, if you are treating infants: see the section “Children up to 3 years” below if you are known to be allergic to chrysanthemums or other composite plants. In this case, you should only use this medicine after consulting your doctor.
Treatment should only be carried out if lice eggs or live lice are detected.InfectoPedicul is intended for external use only! This medicine must not be swallowed.Due to the alcohol content, InfectoPedicul is flammable.Due to the alcohol content, InfectoPedicul can cause irritation when it comes into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes (nasopharynx, genital area) or open wounds.Always ensure that the solution does not come into contact with these areas. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.InfectoPedicul can worsen the symptoms of asthma or skin inflammation (eczema).
Children up to 3 years: Do not use InfectoPedicul on newborns and as expressly prescribed by your doctor. There is insufficient experience with infants and small children.Treatment of children up to the age of 3 years should only be carried out under close medical supervision.
As an insecticide, InfectoPedicul is harmful to all types of insects, as well as to aquatic creatures (fish, daphnia, algae).Make sure that InfectoPedicul does not get into aquariums and terrariums. The nit comb has metal teeth. Therefore, comb particularly carefully if the scalp is scratched or irritated. The tines are very close apart so that the nits and lice eggs are safely caught. If you have dense, thick hair, only comb thin strands of hair if possible to avoid pulling out hair.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Expanded experience with the use of permethrin in pregnant women has shown no evidence of adverse health effects. However, as a precautionary measure, you should only use InfectoPedicul during pregnancy as directed by your doctor.Permethrin, the active ingredient in InfectoPedicul, can pass into breast milk. For precautionary reasons, you should take a break from breastfeeding for 3 days after using InfectoPedicul.
Notes
Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
To ensure full effectiveness, the hair must not be washed with hair wash (shampoo) for at least the first three days after using the drug (rinsing with water is permitted). As a result, the active ingredient remains on the hair and kills any lice that hatch from the eggs even after treatment, or the egg contents are severely damaged.
Checks for any recurrence of head lice infestations should be carried out as often as possible, but at least on the 5th day of treatment.Head and body lice are easily transmitted from person to person, so checking all contact persons in the family area and in kindergarten/school is strongly recommended.
