Information for use with the article Aescusan retard Retardtabletten Herbal vein remedy: Aescusan retard is a herbal vein remedy for the treatment of complaints associated with disorders of the leg veins, such as swollen legs, varicose veins, feelings of heaviness and tension, pain, itching, tiredness in the legs and calf cramps. This medicine contains horse chestnut seed dry extract as the active ingredient. It should be used as directed to achieve the best possible treatment results. Before taking Aescusan retard, it should be noted that it should not be taken by patients with known hypersensitivity to horse chestnut seed or any of the other ingredients. Particular caution is required when taking it if there is inflammation of the skin, superficial phlebitis, hardening of the subcutaneous tissue, severe pain, skin ulcers, sudden swelling of one or both legs or functional impairment of the heart or kidneys. In these cases, a doctor should be consulted. Additional measures prescribed by the doctor, such as wrapping the legs, wearing support stockings or pouring cold water on them, should be strictly adhered to. To take Aescusan retard, the medicine should be taken unchewed with some liquid in the morning and evening before meals. It may take a few weeks before the first treatment successes appear. The drug can be used long-term after consultation with the doctor. Dose adjustment in patients with impaired renal function is not necessary.
