Levocetirizine ratiopharm 5 mg film-coated tablets contains the active ingredient levocetirizine dihydrochloride.Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg levocetirizine dihydrochloride, equivalent to 4.2 mg levocetirizine.The other components are:

Tablet core: Microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) (E572).Film coating: hypromellose (E464), titanium dioxide (E171) and macrogol 400.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, if you are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if your kidney function is severely impaired (severe kidney failure with a creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min), this medicine must not be taken.The use of Levocetirizin ratiopharm is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Dosage

Recommended use of Levocetirizin ratiopharm 5 mg film-coated tablets: Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Adults and children aged 6 years and over: The recommended dose for adults and children aged 6 years and over is 1 film-coated tablet daily.

Special dosage instructions for certain patient groups: Patients with severely impaired kidney function must not take Levocetirizin-ratiopharm®.Patients with impaired kidney function and patients with simultaneously impaired liver and kidney function may receive a lower dose, which depends on the severity of the kidney disease and, in children, also on body weight.The dose will be determined by your doctor.Patients with only impaired liver function should take the recommended dose (1 film-coated tablet daily).Provided that renal function is normal, no dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients aged 65 years and over.

Intake

To be taken.The tablet should be swallowed whole with water.It can be taken with or without meals.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.If you may not be able to empty your bladder completely (such as a spinal cord injury or an enlarged prostate), please ask your doctor for advice.If you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, please ask your doctor for advice as using this medicine could increase seizures.If you are planning to have an allergy test, you should ask your doctor whether you should stop using this product several days before the test.This medicine may affect the results of your allergy test.

The use of this medicine is not recommended for children under 6 years of age as it is not possible to adjust the dose with the film-coated tablets.

Some patients may experience drowsiness/drowsiness, tiredness and fatigue during therapy with this medicine.Use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. In special studies, however, no impairment of the attention, reaction ability and driving ability of healthy test subjects was found when taking levocetirizine in the recommended dosage.
