What is ASS AL Protect and what is it used for?

ASS AL Protect contains the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid, which acts as a platelet aggregation inhibitor in low doses.Platelets are small blood components that promote blood clotting and can cause thrombosis.A blood clot in an artery can interrupt blood flow and affect oxygen supply.In the heart this can lead to a heart attack or angina pectoris, and in the brain it can lead to a stroke.

ASS AL Protect is used to reduce the risk of blood clots and to prevent the following conditions: heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular problems in patients with stable or unstable angina pectoris.It is also used to prevent blood clots after certain heart surgery procedures.This medicine is not suitable for emergency situations and is for prevention purposes only.

Areas of application

ASS AL Protect is used to thin the blood and prevent heart attacks, strokes, angina pectoris, as well as to prevent blood clots after certain cardiac surgical procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting and cardiac catheter therapy.

Dosage and instructions for use

Adults usually take 1 tablet (100 mg) once daily.The maximum daily dose is 300 mg.Elderly patients should use the drug with caution.Children and adolescents under the age of 16 may only take the medication if prescribed by a doctor.

The tablet should be taken whole with sufficient liquid.Due to the enteric coating, it should not be crushed, broken or chewed.

Overdose

Overdose may cause symptoms such as ringing in the ears, hearing problems, headache, dizziness, confusion, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.In severe cases, hyperventilation, fever, excessive sweating, restlessness, convulsions, hallucinations, low blood sugar, coma and shock may occur.If an overdose is suspected, a doctor should be contacted immediately.

Storage

The medicine should be stored in the original packaging at a temperature below 25 °C and protected from moisture.It must be stored out of the reach of children and not used after the expiry date.

Composition

The active ingredient is acetylsalicylic acid.Each enteric-coated tablet contains 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, stearic acid, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer, polysorbate 80, sodium dodecyl sulfate, triethyl citrate and talc.

Mode of action

Acetylsalicylic acid has an analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect by blocking the formation of prostaglandins.It also influences blood clotting by preventing blood platelets from sticking together and improving blood flow.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, ulcers in the digestive tract, increased bleeding tendency, kidney or liver failure.Caution is advised in cases of bronchial asthma, heart failure, impaired kidney or liver function and a tendency to gout attacks.Children under 16 years of age may only take the medication if directed by a doctor.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, microbleeds and ulcers in the digestive tract.Skin hypersensitivity reactions are also possible.
