Instructions for use of Loperamide ratiopharm acute 2 mg film-coated tablets

Loperamide ratiopharm acute 2 mg film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.This medicine is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over unless causal therapy is available.Treatment beyond two days may only be carried out under medical supervision.No prescription is required for this product.

In addition to the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride (2 mg per tablet), the film-coated tablets also contain the following excipients: corn starch, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, copovidone, highly disperse silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, simeticon, methylcellulose and sorbic acid.Please note that the product contains lactose.

Areas of application

Loperamide ratiopharm acute 2 mg film-coated tablets are used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over.The drug helps to reduce the number of diarrhea and normalize bowel movements, thereby relieving accompanying symptoms such as abdominal pain, cramps and bloating.

Mode of action

The active ingredient loperamide inhibits intestinal movement and normalizes intestinal activity.It also reduces water loss from the irritated intestinal cells and promotes the absorption of fluid and salts, which leads to normalization of the stool.

Dosage and application

Adults take 2 film-coated tablets at the start of treatment.Then 1 film-coated tablet is taken after each unformed stool.The maximum daily dose is 6 film-coated tablets.Adolescents aged 12 and over take 1 film-coated tablet at the beginning and after each unformed stool.The maximum daily dose for this age group is 4 film-coated tablets.The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken in case of hypersensitivity to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients, in children under 12 years of age, in conditions in which a slowing of intestinal activity must be avoided (e.g. constipation, intestinal obstruction), in diarrhea with fever or bloody stools, in antibiotic-associated colitis, in chronic diarrheal diseases and in acute attacks of ulcerative colitis.Children under 2 years of age must not be treated with medicines containing loperamide.

Side effects

Possible side effects include constipation, bloating, headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, gastrointestinal pain, vomiting, indigestion, rash, hypersensitivity reactions, unconsciousness, body rigidity, intestinal obstruction, abdominal distension, blistering skin disorders, urinary retention and fatigue.If side effects occur, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and precautions

In AIDS-patients, the intake should be stopped and a doctor consulted at the first sign of a distended abdomen.If you have liver disease, you should consult a doctor before taking it.Make sure to replace fluids and salts adequately, especially in children.The recommended dosage and duration of use of 2 days must not be exceeded.If diarrhea persists after 2 days, a doctor should be consulted.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

The medicine should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically recommended by a doctor.Small amounts of the active ingredient can pass into breast milk.

Ability to drive and use machines

Tiredness, dizziness and sleepiness may occur if you have diarrhea or as a result of taking the medicine.Therefore, caution is advised in traffic and when working with machines.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not store it above 25°C.Store the medicine in the original packaging to protect it from moisture.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
