What is Mykoderm oral gel and what is it used for?

Mykoderm Mund-Gel is an antifungal that is used to treat yeast infections of the oral mucosa, also known as oral thrush.The active ingredient miconazole works against fungi and inhibits their growth and reproduction.

Areas of application

Mykoderm Mouth Gel is used for fungal infections of the oral cavity caused by yeast fungi such as Candida albicans.The gel is easy to dose with the included measuring spoon and spreads well on the oral mucosa.

How to use Mykoderm oral gel?

Always use Mykoderm Mouth Gel exactly as directed.The usual dose is one small measuring spoon (1 ml) four times daily for infants and one large measuring spoon (2 ml) four times daily for children and adults.The maximum daily dose should not exceed 20 mg per kilogram of body weight.

The gel is applied to the oral mucosa four times throughout the day after meals and should be kept in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing.For infants and young children, the gel should be applied carefully with a clean finger to avoid aspiration.

Treatment should be continued for at least 1-2 days after the symptoms disappear.Generally, symptoms improve within the first five days.The duration of therapy is on average 1-2 weeks.

What should you pay attention to when using it?

If you use more Mykoderm oral gel than you should, vomiting and diarrhea may occur.In this case, please contact your doctor.If you forget to use it, simply continue treatment as usual.

Treatment should be carried out until the end, even if the symptoms have already disappeared, in order to avoid a relapse.

What Mykoderm oral gel contains

The active ingredient is miconazole.1 g gel contains 20 mg miconazole (corresponding to 2%).The other ingredients are polysorbate 20, saccharin sodium, potato starch, flavorings, ethanol 96%, glycerol and purified water.

How should Mykoderm oral gel be stored?

Keep medicines out of the reach of children!You must not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the tube and carton.The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.After opening the tube, the gel has a shelf life of 8 weeks and should be stored at room temperature.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to miconazole or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Infants under 6 months of age should only use the medicine after consulting a doctor or under medical supervision.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, especially after prolonged use.If you notice any unusual symptoms, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Mode of action

The active ingredient miconazole interferes with the metabolism of the fungi and causes damage to their structure.This causes the outer covering of the fungi, the cell membrane, to become more impermeable and the cells starve.Depending on the concentration, the growth of the fungi is inhibited or they die.
