What is Lamisil cream and what is it used for?

Lamisil Cream is a broad-spectrum antifungal used to treat fungal skin infections.The active ingredient terbinafine hydrochloride penetrates the affected skin layers, inhibits the proliferation of the fungus and kills it.The product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Lamisil cream is used for fungal infections of the skin, such as athlete's foot (athlete's foot, athlete's foot), fungal skin diseases on the thighs and body, fungal skin diseases in the groin area, skin candidiasis and bran fungus.These infections are caused by dermatophytes, yeast or other fungi.

Mode of action

The active ingredient terbinafine hydrochloride damages the outer covering of the fungi, known as the cell membrane.This cover becomes more impermeable to nutrients, which means that the fungi are inhibited in their growth or die.The active ingredient accumulates in the skin, hair and nails and develops its full effect there.

Application instructions

Before use, the affected skin areas and hands should be thoroughly cleaned and dried.The cream is applied in a thin layer to the affected skin area and the surrounding skin areas and rubbed in lightly.Hands should be washed after use to avoid spreading the infection.

Dosage

Lamisil cream is applied to the affected skin areas once or twice a day.The recommended treatment duration varies depending on the type of fungal infection.For athlete's foot between the toes, the treatment period is one week, for athlete's foot on the sole of the foot two weeks, for fungal skin diseases on the body and in the groin area one week, for yeast infections of the skin one to two weeks and for bran fungus two weeks.

Supporting treatment

To support the treatment, good hygiene should be observed.The affected skin area should be cleaned regularly and dried carefully.You should avoid scratching despite itching.Towels, clothing and stockings that come into contact with the affected area of skin should be changed regularly and washed at at least 60 °C.Natural materials such as cotton should be preferred.

Storage

Lamisil cream should be kept out of the reach of children.The tube should be kept sealed in the outer box.After opening, Lamisil Cream has a shelf life of 16 weeks in the aluminum tube and 4 weeks in the laminate tube.The medicine should not be disposed of via wastewater.Ask your pharmacy how to dispose of the medicine.

Composition

The active ingredient is terbinafine hydrochloride.1 g cream contains 10 mg terbinafine hydrochloride corresponding to 8.9 mg terbinafine.The other ingredients are purified water, isopropyl myristate, polysorbate 60, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan stearate, benzyl alcohol and sodium hydroxide.

Contraindications

Lamisil cream should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.Children under 5 years of age should not be treated with the cream.It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Side effects

Possible side effects include skin hypersensitivity reactions, such as itching, burning, redness of the skin and rash.If you feel unwell or change during treatment, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Notes

The cream must not be used in the mouth or swallowed.It must not get into the eye.In case of contact with the eye, the eye should be wiped immediately and rinsed thoroughly under weak running water.Hands should be washed after use.Irregular use or premature discontinuation of use can trigger a relapse.If you have athlete's foot, your feet, especially the spaces between the toes, should be dried thoroughly after each wash.Hygienic measures, such as changing towels and clothing every day, must be observed.
