Vitagamma® Vitamin D3 1000 IU tablets is a vitamin preparation that is used to prevent rickets, to prevent vitamin D deficiency in healthy people without absorption disorders and to support the treatment of osteoporosis.It can also be used to prevent rickets in premature babies.The product is available without a prescription.

The tablets contain 10 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, consisting of 0.025 mg colecalciferol (vitamin D3, 1000 IU), gelatin, sucrose, corn starch, partially hydrogenated soybean oil and alpha-tocopherol.Other ingredients include highly disperse silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone K30, croscarmellose sodium, talc and long-chain partial glycerides.

Contraindications

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to colecalciferol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The drug should also not be used in cases of hypercalcemia (increased calcium concentration in the blood) and/or hypercalciuria (increased calcium concentration in the urine) as well as in pseudohypoparathyroidism.

Dosage

The recommended dose to prevent rickets and if there is an apparent risk of vitamin D deficiency is 1/2 tablet daily (corresponding to 0.0125 mg or 500 IU of vitamin D3).To support the treatment of osteoporosis and to prevent rickets in premature babies, 1 tablet daily (corresponding to 0.025 mg or 1000 IU of vitamin D3) is recommended.The tablet can be divided into equal doses.

Intake

Adults should take the tablets with enough liquid.For infants and small children, it is recommended to divide the tablet into as small pieces as possible, crush it finely with the back of a spoon and mix it with a little water on a teaspoon.It is best to give this suspension directly into the child's mouth during a meal.Adding the suspended tablet to a bottle or porridge meal is not advisable.

Patient information

If there is a tendency to form calcium-containing kidney stones, impaired excretion of calcium and phosphate via the kidneys, treatment with benzothiadiazine derivatives and immobilized patients, it should be taken with caution.Patients with sarcoidosis should have blood and urine calcium levels monitored.If you take other medicines containing vitamin D at the same time, the dose should be taken into account.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Daily doses of up to 500 IU/d are harmless during pregnancy, while higher doses should only be taken if strictly indicated.
