Areas of application
Canesten Cream is a medicine for the treatment of fungal diseases of the skin and mucous membranes. The active ingredient clotrimazole penetrates the affected skin layers and fights the fungi there. The cream is used for fungal infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, molds and other pathogens such as Malassezia furfur, as well as for skin infections caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum. This also includes Candida vulvitis and Candida balanitis.
These infections can manifest themselves in various parts of the body, such as athlete's foot, between the toes or fingers, on the nail fold, in skin diseases with additional fungal infection, in superficial candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma and seborrheic dermatitis with microbial involvement.Infections of the labia and adjacent areas as well as inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men caused by yeast fungi can also be treated.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The active ingredient in Canesten cream is clotrimazole. Each gram of the cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole. In addition, the cream contains the following excipients: benzyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60 and purified water.
Contraindications
Canesten cream must not be used if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. If you are hypersensitive to cetostearyl alcohol, allergic reactions on the skin or mucous membranes can occur. In this case, another dosage form without cetostearyl alcohol should be used.
Dosage and application
Apply Canesten Cream thinly to the affected skin areas 2 to 3 times a day.A strand of ointment about half a centimeter long is enough for an area the size of a palm. Before each use, the affected skin areas should be washed and dried thoroughly.
The duration of treatment depends on the type and location of the disease. In order to achieve complete healing, the treatment should not be stopped after the symptoms have subsided, but should be continued for a duration of at least 4 weeks. In the case of athlete's foot, treatment should be continued for about 2 weeks after the signs of the disease have disappeared.
