Areas of application

Canesten cream is used to treat fungal diseases of the skin and mucous membranes.These can be caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, molds and other pathogens such as Malassezia furfur.Skin infections caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum can also be treated.The cream can also be used for Candida vulvitis and Candida balanitis.

Mode of action

The active ingredient clotrimazole in Canesten Cream penetrates the affected skin layers and fights the fungus there.This either causes the fungus to die or inhibits its growth.Clotrimazole is also effective against certain bacteria.

Canesten Cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole in a concentration of 10 mg per gram. In addition, the cream contains the following excipients: benzyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60 and purified water.

Contraindications

Canesten cream must not be used if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients.If you are hypersensitive to cetostearyl alcohol, allergic reactions on the skin or mucous membranes can occur.In this case, another dosage form without cetostearyl alcohol should be used.

Dosage

The recommended dose is to apply thinly to the affected skin areas 2-3 times a day and rub in.A strand of ointment approximately 1/2 cm long is usually sufficient for an area approximately the size of a palm.Before each use, the affected skin areas should be washed and dried thoroughly.If the labia and adjacent areas are infected, the cream should be applied to the relevant skin areas 2-3 times a day.The duration of treatment depends on the extent and location of the disease and should be continued for a duration of at least 4 weeks.

Intake

Apply the cream thinly to the affected skin areas and rub it in.Before each use, wash the affected skin areas and dry them thoroughly.

Patient information

Change towels, underwear and stockings that come into contact with the affected area of skin every day to support healing and prevent transmission to other parts of the body or people.Canesten Cream has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

Before using this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.There is only a limited amount of data available on the use of clotrimazole in pregnant women.For reasons of caution, clotrimazole should only be used during pregnancy after consultation and under the guidance of a doctor.Because of the low absorption when applied topically, Canesten Cream can be used during breastfeeding when used as directed.Canesten Cream should not be used directly on the breast area while breastfeeding.
