Instructions for use of the article Acticoat antimicrobial wound dressing: ACTICOAT is a wound dressing that allows a long-lasting release of silver. This creates an antimicrobial barrier that is effective for up to three days. This reduces the risk of bacterial colonisation and infection and reduces the need for frequent dressing changes. The outer coating of ACTICOAT prevents sticking to the wound and allows atraumatic dressing changes for the patient. Product features include: - Proven efficacy against more than 150 species of germs. - Killing bacteria within 30 minutes in in-vitro tests. - Support of an ideal moist wound environment. - Reduction of wound odour by reducing odour-causing bacteria. - Prevention of biofilm formation (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus). - Efficacy against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungal pathogens. - Efficacy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as Pseudomonas, MRSA and VRE. - Possibility of secondary fixation with ALLEVYN-foam dressings or OPSITE FLEXIFIX-film dressings, depending on the amount of wound secretions. - Latex-free formulation. Applications of ACTICOAT include: - Absorbent antimicrobial protective dressing for more or less deep wounds such as decubital ulcers, leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, burn wounds and graft sites. - Can be used on infected wounds and the infection should be inspected and treated according to local protocol.
