Instructions for use for arthrex pain gel, 150 g

arthrex® pain gel

arthrex® pain gel is a product for external use that is used to support the symptomatic treatment of pain in acute strains, sprains or bruises in the extremity area. These injuries can be caused, for example, by blunt trauma, which often occurs in sports injuries. No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

The gel contains diclofenac sodium, an active ingredient from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/analgesics that have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. It is used in adults to treat pain from acute strains, sprains or bruises in the extremities. In adolescents over 14 years of age, it is used for the short-term treatment of pain from acute bruises, strains, or sprains caused by blunt trauma. If symptoms persist for more than three days, a doctor should be consulted.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The gel contains 10 mg diclofenac sodium per gram, which corresponds to 9.3 mg diclofenac. In addition, it contains the following excipients: hypromellose, isopropyl alcohol, PEG glycerol cocoate, propylene glycol and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to diclofenac or any of the other ingredients. The gel should also not be used if you have had previous asthma attacks, sudden inflammation of the nasal mucosa or skin reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It must not be applied to skin wounds, open injuries, skin inflammation or infections, or eczema.Eyes and mucous membranes should not come into contact with the product; especially in children, care must be taken to ensure that hands do not come into contact with the rubbed skin areas. The gel must not be used in the last trimester of pregnancy or in children and adolescents under 14 years of age.

Dosage

The gel should always be used exactly as described or after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose is a thin and even layer on the affected area of the body three times a day.Depending on the size of the painful area, a gel strand approximately 8 cm long (3 g corresponding to 0.03 g diclofenac sodium) is required. The maximum daily dosage of 9 g gel (corresponding to 0.09 g diclofenac sodium) should not be exceeded.Elderly patients do not require any special dosage adjustment, but should pay attention to side effects when using it.No dose reduction is necessary if kidney or liver function is impaired. There are no sufficient data on effectiveness and tolerability for children and adolescents under 14 years of age.Teens ages 14 and older should see a doctor if symptoms worsen.

The duration of treatment is usually 1 to 2 weeks.Longer use has not been proven. In case of overdose, the gel should be wiped off and washed off with water. If accidentally swallowed, a doctor should be contacted. If an application is missed, the gel should be applied either immediately or at the usual time.If you have any further questions about use, you can consult a doctor or pharmacy.

Intake

The gel is applied thinly and evenly to the affected area of the body three times a day and rubbed in lightly. It is intended for external use only and must not be taken.Hands should be washed after application unless hands are the area to be treated. The gel may only be applied to intact skin surfaces and must not come into contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Before applying a bandage, the gel should dry for a few minutes. The use of a tight bandage is not recommended.

Patient information

Before using the gel you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist. If used over a large area and for a long time, side effects may occur, which are also possible when taking other medicines containing diclofenac.A bandage can be used, but a tight bandage is not recommended.Particular caution is required in acute conditions with severe redness, swelling or overheating of joints, persistent joint problems or severe back pain.Patients with asthma, hay fever, swollen nasal mucous membranes or chronic respiratory diseases should only use the gel under medical supervision. If a skin rash occurs, treatment should be discontinued. Children should not come into contact with the rubbed areas of skin.If symptoms do not improve or worsen after three days, you should consult a doctor.

I received the product for a very painful periostitis in my ankle. I am always very sceptical about ointments and how much they help and work. With this one, I was so surprised at how quickly it worked against the pain. I have to lie, I noticed the pain-relieving effect after just a few minutes! This ointment is absolutely amazing!
