Areas of application

Voltaren pain gel 11.6 mg/g is a gel for adults and teenagers aged 14 and over with the active ingredient diclofenac.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of pain in acute strains, sprains or bruises resulting from blunt trauma, such as those that can arise from sports or accident injuries.The gel is also suitable for relieving pain in the soft tissues near the joints, such as bursa, tendons, tendon sheaths, ligaments, muscle attachments and joint capsules, especially in osteoarthritis of the knee and finger joints.It can also be used for epicondylitis, an inflammation of the tendon attachments in the elbow area, as well as for acute muscle pain, for example in the back area.Teenagers over 14 years of age can use the gel for short-term treatment of pain from acute bruises, strains or sprains.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Voltaren pain gel 11.6 mg/g contains the active ingredient diclofenac-N-ethylethanamine in a concentration of 11.6 mg per gram of gel, which corresponds to 10 mg of diclofenac sodium.Other ingredients include purified water, 2-propanol, propylene glycol, cocoyl caprylocaprate, paraffin, cetomacrogol, carbomer 974 P, N-ethylethanamine and perfume cream containing benzyl benzoate.

Contraindications

The product should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or in case of hypersensitivity to other medicines used to treat pain, fever or inflammation, such as ibuprofen or acetylsalicylic acid.Patients sensitive to acetylsalicylic acid and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should not use the product.If a skin rash occurs during treatment, use should be discontinued.The gel must not be applied to open injuries, inflammation or infections of the skin, eczema or mucous membranes.It is not suitable for use during pregnancy or in children and adolescents under 14 years of age.

Dosage and application

Apply a cherry to walnut-sized amount of gel thinly to the painful area three to four times a day and massage in gently.Then wipe your hands on a paper towel and wash them, unless these are the area to be treated.Before applying a bandage, the gel should dry on the skin for a few minutes.Voltaren pain gel has a non-greasy formulation and can be easily rubbed into the skin.It has a neutral color and a pleasant smell.The shelf life after opening is up to 36 months.Do not use the gel for more than 1-3 weeks without medical advice.

Patient information

When used on large areas over a long period of time, systemic side effects comparable to those of other diclofenac-containing medicinal products may occur.Do not use an occlusive dressing.In acute conditions with severe redness, swelling or overheating of joints, persistent joint problems or severe back pain that radiates to the legs and/or is associated with neurological deficits, you should consult a doctor.If symptoms do not improve after 3-5 days or worsen, medical advice should also be sought.Patients with asthma, hay fever, swollen nasal mucous membranes, chronic bronchoconstrictive lung diseases or hypersensitivity to other painkillers and rheumatism medications should only use the gel under medical supervision.Make sure that children do not come into contact with rubbed areas of skin.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.In the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, the medicine should only be used after consulting your doctor.The medicine must not be used in the last trimester of pregnancy.Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts.During breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used after consulting a doctor and should not be applied to the chest area or to large other areas of skin for a long period of time.
