Instructions for use for LACTULOSE AL Syrup, 500 ml
LACTULOSE AL Syrup
LACTULOSE AL Syrup is a laxative that gently stimulates the intestines. It contains the active ingredient lactulose and is particularly helpful for constipation, which cannot be sufficiently controlled by high-fiber foods and other general measures. The syrup can also help with illnesses that require easier bowel movements. It is also used to prevent and treat portocaval encephalopathy caused by chronic liver diseases, particularly cirrhosis. The syrup contains fructose, galactose and lactose.
No prescription is required for this product.
Area of application
Intestinal sluggishness is a common problem called constipation or constipation.Constipation can occur due to travel, illness, pregnancy, or as a side effect of medication.Chronic constipation is often due to a lack of fiber, fluids, and exercise. In the long term, changing your lifestyle can help.
LACTULOSE AL Syrup gently regulates the intestines and is a gentle aid for constipation. The syrup also supports illnesses that require easier bowel movements.Adequate fluid intake, around two liters of water, tea or fruit spritzer daily, supports the effect of the syrup.Even a glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach can aid digestion.
Yoga, Tai Chi or Qigong are helpful for gastrointestinal problems such as constipation.Regular relaxation breaks promote digestion.Suitable relaxation methods are progressive muscle relaxation and autogenic training.Fiber, wheat bran, linseed or psyllium swell through water absorption and make the stool softer.Fresh or dried fruits such as plums and figs also stimulate the intestines.
Mode of action
The active ingredient lactulose has two effects that are responsible for the laxative effect.Due to the binding of water in the intestine, the volume of the intestinal contents increases, the stool remains moist and slippery, and intestinal movement is indirectly stimulated. The breakdown products of lactulose, especially lactic and acetic acid, directly stimulate intestinal movement. The laxative effect can occur after 2 to 10 hours; if the dosage is insufficient, it can take 24 to 48 hours before the first bowel movement. The dosage must be adjusted individually depending on your needs.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
5 ml LACTULOSE AL syrup for constipation contains 3.335 g lactulose.Other ingredients include fructose, galactose, lactose and purified water.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to lactulose or any of the other ingredients of the preparation. If you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever, which may be signs of a serious illness such as intestinal obstruction or inflammation in the gastrointestinal area, you should not take the medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
Dosage
LACTULOSE AL Syrup is taken orally. The dosages given are for guidance only and must be adjusted depending on the severity and development of the clinical picture. The dosage for adults is to take 7.5 - 15 ml LACTULOSE AL syrup once or twice daily (corresponding to 5 - 10 g lactulose once or twice per day). The syrup can be dissolved or diluted in water or other liquids. It can be taken regardless of meals. The duration of treatment depends on the development of the clinical picture.
Intake
Please measure the dose required for you. This amount of syrup is then mixed with water or with warm drinks, e.g. coffee or tea, or stirred into yogurt, muesli or porridge and taken with these foods. It can be taken regardless of meals. If a single dose is sufficient to successfully treat constipation, taking it in the morning after breakfast has proven to be particularly well tolerated.
Patient information
Particular caution is required when taking the drug if there are water and electrolyte balance disorders. If constipation persists for a long time, you should seek advice and examination from your doctor before starting therapy with the medicine. For infants and small children, the preparation should only be taken after consulting a doctor. The medicine has no adverse effects on perception, judgment or the ability to react.
Pregnancy
There are no known harmful effects of lactulose when taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding.Lactulose can also be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Notes
The laxative effect can occur after 2-10 hours; if the amounts are insufficient, it can take 24-48 hours before the first bowel movement. While taking the medication, care should be taken to eat a diet rich in fiber, as this supports the laxative effect.Raw vegetable salads and whole grain products are particularly suitable.Consuming large amounts of fresh yogurt promotes the important colonization of the colon with bifidus bacteria.Make sure you drink enough fluids (at least 2 liters daily). For diabetics, the synthetic content of lactulose in digestible carbohydrates must be taken into account (100 ml contains a maximum of 17g = 1.4 BE).
