It is especially essential for cell division, blood formation, nerve function and growth processes. A folic acid deficiency can cause symptoms such as fatigue, pallor, dizziness and weight loss. The intake of folic acid is especially important if you want to have children or are pregnant. - Risk factors for a folic acid deficiency are smoking, high alcohol consumption, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, taking the contraceptive pill, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
