Instructions for use for LACTULOSE AL Syrup, 1000 ml
LACTULOSE AL Syrup
LACTULOSE AL Syrup is a gentle laxative that stimulates the intestines. It is suitable for adults and children and contains the active ingredient lactulose. The syrup regulates intestinal activity and makes bowel movements easier. It is used for constipation that cannot be adequately relieved by a high-fiber diet and other measures. It also supports diseases that require easier bowel movements, as well as the prevention and treatment of portocaval encephalopathy caused by chronic liver diseases. No prescription is required for this product.
Mode of action
The laxative effect of LACTULOSE AL syrup is based on two effects. On the one hand, lactulose binds water in the intestine, which increases the volume of the intestinal contents. The stool remains moist and slippery, and intestinal movement is indirectly stimulated. On the other hand, the breakdown products of lactulose, especially lactic and acetic acid, directly stimulate intestinal movement. The laxative effect can occur after 2 to 10 hours, but if the dosage is insufficient it can take 24 to 48 hours before the first bowel movement. The dosage must be adjusted individually.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
5 ml LACTULOSE AL syrup contains 3.335 g lactulose as an active ingredient.Other ingredients include galactose, fructose, lactose and purified water. The syrup contains 66.7 g of lactulose in 100 ml. It also contains fructose, galactose and lactose. The content of digestible carbohydrates in 100 ml of syrup is a maximum of 17 g, which corresponds to 1.4 bread units (BE).
Area of application
Intestinal constipation, also known as constipation, is a common problem. It occurs when bowel movements occur less than three times per week, the stool is lumpy or hard, requires straining, or there is a feeling of incomplete evacuation.Constipation can be caused by travel, illness, pregnancy, or medication. In the long term, the only thing that helps is a change in lifestyle, especially a diet rich in fiber, sufficient fluids and exercise.
LACTULOSE AL Syrup can gently stimulate the intestines and make bowel movements easier when high-fiber foods and other measures are not enough. The syrup also supports conditions that require easier bowel movements.Adequate fluid intake of around two liters of water, tea or fruit spritzer daily helps to keep the stool soft and get the intestines moving.Even a glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach can aid digestion.
Yoga, Tai Chi or Qigong are helpful methods to promote digestion.Regular relaxation breaks, such as progressive muscle relaxation and autogenic training, can also support intestinal activity.Fiber, wheat bran, linseed or psyllium swell through water absorption and make the stool softer.Fresh or dried fruit such as plums and figs stimulate the intestines.
Application
LACTULOSE AL Syrup is taken orally. The dosage for adults is 7.5 to 15 ml once or twice a day, which corresponds to 5 to 10 g of lactulose. The syrup can be dissolved or diluted in water or other liquids. It can be taken regardless of meals. The duration of treatment depends on the development of the clinical picture.
The required dose should be measured using the measuring cup.The amount can then be taken with water or warm drinks such as coffee or tea or stirred into yoghurt, muesli or porridge. When taken once to treat constipation, taking it in the morning after breakfast has proven to be particularly well tolerated.
Contraindications
LACTULOSE AL Syrup must not be taken if you are allergic to lactulose or any of the other ingredients of the preparation. The preparation should also not be taken if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever, which could indicate a serious illness such as intestinal obstruction or inflammation in the gastrointestinal area.In such cases, a doctor should be consulted immediately. The preparation should also not be taken if there are water and electrolyte imbalances or if you have a hereditary fructose intolerance.
Patient information
If the water and electrolyte balance is disturbed, LACTULOSE AL syrup should not be taken. If constipation persists for a long time, a doctor should be consulted before starting therapy with the drug, as chronic bowel movements disorders can be a sign of a more serious disease. In infants and small children, the preparation should only be given after consulting a doctor, as an inherited fructose intolerance may not yet have been recognized. The medicine has no adverse effects on perception, judgment or the ability to react.
Pregnancy
There are no known harmful effects of lactulose when taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding. LACTULOSE AL Syrup can therefore also be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Notes
While taking LACTULOSE AL syrup, care should be taken to eat a diet rich in fiber to support the laxative effect.Raw vegetable salads and whole grain products are suitable.Consuming large amounts of fresh yogurt promotes the colonization of the colon with bifidus bacteria.Adequate fluid intake of at least two liters daily is important. For diabetics, the content of digestible carbohydrates must be taken into account, as 100 ml of syrup contains a maximum of 17 g of carbohydrates, which corresponds to 1.4 BE.
