Macrogol beta plus electrolytes is a laxative for the treatment of chronic constipation in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over. It consists of the active ingredients macrogol 3350, sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate and potassium chloride. The medicine works by softening the stool and increasing the amount of fluid in the bowel to facilitate intestinal transit. The recommended dosage is 1 sachet dissolved in 125 ml of water, 1-3 times daily, regardless of meals. The solution should not be used for longer than 2 weeks, unless your doctor recommends longer use. If you prepare the solution, you should use it within 24 hours and store it in the refrigerator. Side effects such as itching, headache and gastrointestinal discomfort may occur. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur. The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease and toxic megacolon.
