The proff® pain cream with ibuprofen is used for the external treatment of muscle, joint and back pain in rheumatic diseases or after sports and accident injuries.It works directly on the affected area and only puts a slight strain on the body.

The cream contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.It is suitable for external treatment of rheumatic diseases, osteoarthritis as well as sports and accident injuries.

proff® pain cream has been approved in Germany since 1983 and is based on a European patent for the production of an ibuprofen cream for external use, which was filed in 1982.Today the cream is available without a prescription, but only at the pharmacy.

The cream is applied to the skin, rubbed in lightly and can be easily distributed.Thanks to external application, the active ingredient is absorbed into the affected area, with only a low systemic impact.The formulation was specially developed for external use and is generally well tolerated by the skin, even with repeated use.

If there are severe bruises and sprains, it may be helpful to use an airtight bandage at the start of treatment.Increased penetration of the active ingredient through the skin can also be achieved by using iontophoresis, a special form of electrotherapy.

No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

proff® pain cream is used for external or supportive treatment of muscular rheumatism, degenerative painful joint diseases (arthrosis), inflammatory rheumatic diseases of the joints and spine, swelling or inflammation of the soft tissues near the joints (e.g. bursa, tendons, tendon sheaths, ligaments and joint capsule), frozen shoulder, low back pain, lumbago, sports and accidental injuries such as bruises, sprains and strains.

The cream is used by adults and teenagers aged 14 and over.It is applied thinly to the affected skin area 3-4 times a day and rubbed in lightly.The usual amount corresponds to a 4-10 cm long strand of cream (approx. 2-5 g cream, equivalent to 100-250 mg ibuprofen).The maximum total daily dose is 20 g cream (1,000 mg ibuprofen).

The treating doctor decides on the duration of the treatment.As a rule, one application over 2-3 weeks is sufficient.The therapeutic benefit of use beyond this period has not been proven.

proff® pain cream contains 50 mg ibuprofen in an oil/water emulsion per 1 g cream.Other ingredients are sodium methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 219), medium chain triglycerides, glycerol monostearate (E 471), macrogol stearate 1,500, macrogol stearate 5,000, propylene glycol (E 1520), xanthan gum (E 415), lavender oil, bitter orange blossom oil and purified water.

Contraindications

proff® pain cream must not be used if you are allergic to ibuprofen, other painkillers and rheumatism medications or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The cream must also not be used on open injuries, inflammation or infections of the skin, as well as on eczema or mucous membranes.In addition, the cream should not be used in the last 3 months of pregnancy.

The cream contains 50 mg of propylene glycol per 1 g, which may cause skin irritation.Also contains fragrances containing benzyl alcohol, benzyl benzoate, citral, citronellol, coumarin, eugenol, farnesol, geraniol, limonene/d-limonene and linalool, which may cause allergic reactions.Sodium methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can trigger hypersensitivity reactions, even with a time delay.

Dosage

proff® pain cream is applied thinly to the affected skin area 3-4 times a day and rubbed in lightly.The usual amount corresponds to a 4-10 cm long strand of cream (approx. 2-5 g cream, equivalent to 100-250 mg ibuprofen).The maximum total daily dose is 20 g cream (1,000 mg ibuprofen).

If there are severe bruises and sprains, it may be helpful to use an airtight bandage at the start of treatment.Increased penetration of the active ingredient through the skin can be achieved by using iontophoresis.The cream should be applied under the cathode (negative pole).The current strength should be 0.1 - 0.5 mA per 5 cm² of electrode surface, the application time should be approx. 10 minutes.

Intake

proff® pain cream is only intended for external use and must not be taken.The cream is applied to the skin and rubbed lightly into the skin. After applying the pain cream, you should first wipe your hands with a paper towel before washing your hands.Exception: The hands are the area to be treated.Then dispose of the paper towel in the trash and do not throw it in the toilet.This allows you to prevent product residue from entering the sewage system or the environment.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the cream if you suffer from asthma, hay fever, swollen nasal mucous membranes or chronic obstructive respiratory diseases or if you are hypersensitive to painkillers and rheumatism medications of all kinds.When using the preparation, these patients are more at risk of asthma attacks, local swelling of the skin and mucous membranes or urticaria than other patients.

Particular caution is required as severe skin reactions have been reported in association with treatment with ibuprofen.Stop using the product and seek medical attention immediately if you notice any of the symptoms of these serious skin reactions.

The preparation should not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 14, as there are no sufficient studies for this age group.Care should be taken to ensure that children do not allow their hands to come into contact with the areas of skin rubbed with the medicine.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Do not use the product if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy.If pregnancy is discovered while using the product, the doctor should be notified.You should not use the product during the first 6 months of pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and recommended by your doctor.If you need treatment during this period, the lowest dose should be used for the shortest possible time.

The active ingredient ibuprofen and its breakdown products pass into breast milk in only small amounts.Since there are no known adverse consequences for the infant, it is generally not necessary to interrupt breastfeeding if used for a short period of time.However, a daily dose of 3 to 4 times, each with a 4-10 cm long strand of cream, should not be exceeded and early cessation of breastfeeding should be considered in the event of prolonged use.To avoid absorption by the baby, breastfeeding mothers should not use the medicine in the breast area.

Notes

Do not store above 25°C.After opening the container, proff® pain cream has a shelf life of 12 months.Never dispose of medicines via wastewater.Ask your pharmacy how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.In doing so, you contribute to protecting the environment.
