Information for use of the article Vigantol 500 I.E. Vitamin D3 Tablets: VIGANTOL 500 I.E. is a vitamin preparation containing colecalciferol (vitamin D3). It is used to prevent rickets and osteomalacia, and to prevent vitamin D deficiency diseases in healthy individuals without absorption disorders. It is also used for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. The dosage depends on the area of application and is determined by the attending physician. As a rule, the recommended dose is 2 tablets daily for the prevention of rickets in premature babies, 1 tablet daily for the prevention of a recognisable risk of vitamin D deficiency disease and 2 tablets daily for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. The tablets should be taken with sufficient water. For infants and young children, it is recommended to dissolve the tablet in water on a teaspoon and then administer to the child during a meal. A storage temperature of not above 25°C is recommended. There are some contraindications to the use of Vigantol 500 I.U., e.g. hypersensitivity to the ingredients or elevated calcium levels. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use. Side effects are rare and occur only in exceptional cases. However, in case of an overdose, increased calcium levels in the blood may occur. In this case, a doctor should be contacted immediately.
