GELASPON® Strip

GELASPON® Strip is a wound dressing for stopping bleeding and wound care.The product is a sterile, absorbable gelatin sponge that is used to treat small superficial wounds.The fine-pored structure of the sponge activates blood clotting and is well tolerated by tissue. GELASPON® Strips are packaged sterile and can be removed from superficial wounds without leaving any residue.No prescription is required for this product.

Product features

GELASPON® Strip is made from 100% purified pork gelatin.The product is insoluble in water and completely absorbable.Thanks to its fine-pored structure with many chambers, the sponge can absorb more than 35 times its own weight in blood and other liquids.The strip is individually packaged in a blister foil, sterilized with gamma radiation and intended for single use.

Areas of application

GELASPON® Strip can be used for local hemostasis of superficial wounds.It is particularly suitable for mild to moderate nosebleeds, after tooth extractions and for the treatment of small surface bleeding.The tamponade effect of the sponge makes it particularly effective.

Mode of action

The fine-pored, porous sponge structure of GELASPON® Strip enables high absorbency for blood and wound secretions.The sponge is insoluble in water and completely absorbable.It is individually packaged, sterilized and intended for single use.

Ingredients

GELASPON® Strip consists of 100% purified pork gelatin.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive or allergic to products of animal origin (pork), the product should not be used.The strip must not be used on infected areas without administering antibiotics.

Dosage and application

GELASPON® Strip can be used dry or soaked in a sterile physiological saline solution.If used dry on a moist wound, cut the strip to the desired size, squeeze gently and place on the bleeding area under light pressure for one to two minutes or until the bleeding stops.If the strip is used moistened on a dry wound, it should first be soaked in sterile physiological saline and then squeezed between the fingers to force the air out of the chambers.The strip can then be stored in physiological saline until used.

For nosebleeds, take a strip out of the packaging, roll it into a conical shape and insert it into the affected nostril.For wounds, insert the strip into the wound according to its size.After tooth extractions, clean the wound and place the strip on the wound, fixing it with a plaster if necessary.

Depending on the type of application and the surgical site, the absorption time of the strip is between 4 and 6 weeks.If the nasal mucosa bleeds, for example, the strip liquefies after 2 to 5 days.

Patient information

In small children and patients with impaired consciousness, GELASPON® Strip may only be used for nosebleeds on the advice of a doctor.The effectiveness of GELASPON® Strip may be reduced in patients being treated with anticoagulants (blood clotting inhibitors).

Instructions for storage and handling

GELASPON® Strips must be stored in the outer packaging in a dry place at room temperature.Do not expose to direct sunlight.The product is intended for single use and is not suitable for re-sterilization.Do not use if packaging is opened or damaged.Opened but unused packaging and contaminated material must be disposed of.
